DC: NIU presidential candidates to interview this week
http://www.daily-chronicle.com/2013/03/0...k/az3cey8/

"The goal is to have a new president ready to begin July 1 as NIU President John Peters announced Oct. 12 that he will retire June 30."

So will the new president end up choosing the new Athletic Director? Would hate to wait till July 1st for a new AD, but then again with the school year winding down I guess it's not a big deal.

Question of the day for me is what happens to these supposed games that were to be announced shortly for our football schedule?

The other observation is does this now put Rod Carey on a short leash as he will not be the new guys choice and he has only coached one game for us?

I have to believe that Dr. Peters will be involved with the search for the new AD. He has an excellent track record in this area and is a great supporter of NIU athletics. I have to believe that there will be some very qualified people applying for the position.

Isn't Compher one the members of the search committee? My initial reaction is seems athletics may now be underrepresented in this search. I truly hope it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.

Its either going to improve or sink. I doubt that we stay the same.

I would think that you will have an announcement for new President before new AD. That way, Peters will still be in office and can advise the new President on the AD process.

It will ultimately be the new President's choice, but since Peters will still be in office, he will still be involved.

I have no experience being the President of a university, but in my business experience once you declare that you are on the way out, you don't have a lot of input as to your replacement or for other position recommendations.

Probably different at an AD or President level, though..... and they are leaving on good terms

IIRC Peters plans on being around for a year after his retirement to help with things.

Sorry, I meant that to be said in my slack jawed DeKalbian Super Fan "PJ for President/Garrett Wolfe for Chancellor" voice.

I would think that NIU will have some pretty well-qualified candidates to interview for both President AND the AD job. The University has become much more well known - mostly due to the football team - and I see athletics continueing to move in a great forward direction. Look how far we have come in the last 10 years in terms of facilities and quality of the football team! I believe it is unlikely that a President or AD would be hired that would move things in reverse.
