RE: Rockets vying for MAC title
Once upon a time, when I was a student at UT and we seemed to routinely have winning football & basketball teams, I longed for UT to "take the leap" and move to what was then a Conference USA that was clearly superior to the MAC...as the years went by, I grew a bit fonder for the MAC--it seemed like such a focused conference, one that placed the appropriate emphasis on college athletics, comprised of schools that felt the same way (well, except for Marshall for a period, but...). I learned to respect our MAC brethren and even hope that they did well out-of-conference, for the overall glory of the MAC. Then, watching Conference USA and the Big East become mere shadows of what they once were, I thought I'd never be on the "UT should leave the MAC" bandwagon.

But I have changed my mind. I wouldn't mind if a couple other MAC schools went with us--when a team can win enough games in any sport to win a division or conference title outright, and the MAC says those wins don't count (whether that's Toledo or some other school in the future) I really do think it's time to part company. Hell, the MAC shouldn't count any other MAC team's wins against UT, then either!

How can you be too focused on a championship banner?

Really??? Thats your answer???

Not saying you have to agree with him, but it is a perfectly good answer----worry about the process (playing the game to the best of your ability) and the product (titles and championships) will take care of themselves---same thing he said before but just in a different way----you may to too young to relate to his example, but you have to cut Sleepy some slack because he is a bit older and has been posting for over ten years now.

Do they seriously think any other school in the conference wouldn't hang that banner, same situation?

I know what ego is, I know what product is, and I know what process is. But I have no idea what this means.

Toledo is an embarrassment to the MAC. They should be kicked out immediately.

RE: Rockets vying for MAC title
The Rockets have only partial control over whether they achieve a specific external goal (specific victories or a MAC title). But they have complete control over the process they use. Whether they practice impeccable work habits and give their best effort is entirely within their power. Kowalczyk was on the right track when he said,

“To be honest with you, I couldn’t care less what he says or what the league says. We’re playing for a championship on Saturday. We play the game in a fair and competitive way, with disadvantages mind you, and we’re competing for a championship regardless of what they say.”

He just needs to take it one step further

RE: Rockets vying for MAC title
Coach k was spot on with his remarks and pointed(no way) comments against a potential injustice this seasons mens UT Rocket team may absorb.
The MAC ruling body is seemingly a group of folks that are way in over their head, running something that they, have not enough experience running.
It is very evident by watching this seasons UT mens basketball team, who were favored at the Coaches and Medias preseason program to win the MAC West. Then as UT accomplished just that, they, the MAC inexperienced, honchos, finally said, UT could not celebrate what was predicted.
At least not in their terms.01-lauramac2
Gooo Rockets.. beat EMU and this team of GREAT EXAMPLES will be remembered as CHAMPIONS.
That ultimately is the most important thing.

Lighten up----Sleepy has been making positive contributions to this board for over a decade and he is entitled to his opinion---he has earned his stripes over the years.

I with Pappy on this. Can't make heads or tails what Sleepy is trying to communicate.

Don't think I agree with the premise either. Coach K doesn't seem "too" focused on a banner IMO but focused on just reward for accomplishment. He's willing to take one for the team by standing up for what he believes is right, even though it might result in reprimand. If head MAC office doesn't get that, then IMO, the head office isn't particularly smart.

Do they seriously think any other school in the conference wouldn't hang that banner, same situation?

Sorry you quoted me before I thought about it and figured that my reply was too harsh. I edited it to be a potentially less offensive, but I was a bit late.

I wonder if he would receive a tactfully worded suppository.
