First UC football scrimmage is Saturday

Today marked the third spring football practice for UC under new coach Tommy Tuberville, and it was the first workout in pads. Some post-practice thoughts from the coach:
– “Today’s the first day of pads, and their heads are swimming right now. We’ve got probably about 40 percent of our offense in. We’re trying to go at a snail’s pace, but we’ve only got 11 or 12 practices left.”
– “We want to get enough in to have a good scrimmage on Saturday, what we’re dealing with position-wise, and do we have everybody in the right position.”
– “We’re putting a lot of pressure on the quarterbacks in practice. We didn’t look good today in our blitz drill. I think we were 1-for-20 or something like that. Normally if you get 30 or 40 percent it’s pretty good. It’s a defensive drill. We knew it’d be a disaster today, because it was the first day we saw some of those blitzes.”
– “The effort’s good, attitude’s good. A long as we have that, we’ll be fine.”
NOTES, OBSERVATIONS
– The first spring scrimmage is scheduled for Saturday, probably 1-3 p.m. (closed to the public). Weather permitting, the scrimmage may be in Nippert Stadium. (Most spring practices will be in the indoor bubble at Sheakley Athletics Center).
– The scrimmage will be part of the 2013 Dick Kerin/SWOFCA UC Coaches Clinic weekend.
– Good to see former Anderson HS head coach Vince Suriano at UC practices. Suriano recently was named UC director of high school and player relations, and he has been helping out on the field during spring drills.
