RE: Question for new members of CUSA....
We've sold these t-shirts that say "Undefeated since 1948" and have done so since at least the '70's. That's our current football tradition.

Don't undersell us. We do have a few other traditions ...
* the newest one is a huge Eagle head the players touch when entering the field. It was bought by alumni.
* we have Boomer, a real cannon we fire off after scores. It tends to scare the heck out of folks not ready for it.
* The admin building is lit green after wins
* You can find more at this link: http://www.unt.edu/traditions/
Forgot about Boomer. The away section is so close, and they always crap their pants, or some have even complained. It's the best.
And, sorry, our band was the best in the SBC by far. Y'all's is good, but ours is one of the best.
I have to ask, with you being so far out on an Island in the sun belt, has a visiting team ever even brought their band to North Texas? I know MTSU hasn't so I'm curious what you are basing your VAST superiority on.
FYI I'm not saying MTSU is the best in any way shape or form, we are very entertaining, and get compliments and standing ovations from every school we play at though. (Former member 2003-2005)
I will also give you that UNT has an excellent school of music especially for a non conservatory, especially jazz and that is something to be proud of, but that does not = best marching band on earth. Most of the good jazz kids and music performance kids aren't even required to play in the marching band and therefore don't.

Honestly, I don't think we have the best marching band. We have a very good and challenging music school ... we have very talented musicians in our marching band ... and I would rate our marching band as very good. I just don't think marching is their thing. Whenever our band is on the field with another I always leave thinking our band had the superior sound.
For example, last year when Texas southern brought their band, I thought their halftime performance was better than ours (marching, dancing, etc) but our band still sounded better.

We have the same discussion everytime Texas Southern plays in San Marcos. The fans love it because they know how to make noise and get down. They did a Michael Jackson tribute shortly after his death, that had the entire band moonwalking and doing Thriller.
It was entertaining, but the consensus from the bandnerds and music people was that they were off key, out of harmony, and poorly disciplined.

I thought you were joking until I searched 'UTSA traditions'.
All I could find was this -https://www.utsa.edu/roadrunnerdays/traditions.html

I seriously doubt your bands are better than JMU's. Numbering nearly 500, they march well AND they sound fantastic.

RE: Question for new members of CUSA....
We at Southern Miss have no history or tradition so I guess I have nothing to add to this thread. Sorry folks.
NOTE: I am being satirical in case anyone believes it is a serious statement.

RE: Question for new members of CUSA....
I would say, yeah, our actual marching aspect isn't the best. But we have the best sound...that's why I say they're the best band. I mean, we don't have the pageantry, but still.
