However, with UTK's current 200 million dollar debt, now might be the time to make an offer. It would be interesting to see how far the rest of that conference is in debt. Might be time to offer a Boise State type deal to SEC. Something along the lines we will take half a share for X amount years unless we win the whole thing then we get a full share.
Memphis could have had a miracle to buy its way in to the $EC once upon a time.
Today, Memphis into the $EC is impossible.
It makes no business-sense. We can't do a Boise State deal because we wouldn't bring any extra money to the $EC in revenue. Why would CBS or ESPN pay extra for a market that already ready provides a large audience for $EC broadcasts?
Louisville, who as much as I hate to say it, is a much stronger candidate would never get into the $EC.
Other than the fact Memphis plays $EC teams in sports and is in the southeastern US, no Tiger fan can say a legitimate reason why the $EC should invite us anymore than an Arkansas State, MTSU, Southern Miss, or UAB fan can provide a legitimate reason the $EC would consider them.
