MAC East: UConn, Buffalo, Akron, Kent State, Ohio, Miami, Cincinnati
MAC West: Toledo, BGSU, Ball State, WMU, EMU, CMU, NIU

You don't need divisions but would the divide
Big East-West Crieghton, Butler, Marquette, DePual, Xaiver, Cincinnati
Big East-East St. John's, Villanova, Seton Hall, Georgetown, Providence, UConn

Lets say the Big East earns 5 million per school and the MAC gets a small bump as well per school. That gives both UConn and Cincinnati a pay raise over the American. The travel for all sports would significantly less and there would be increased regional rivalry games in all sports. The G5 access bowl would still be there for taking as well which is pretty much the ceiling in the American anyway. Bowl games would be a downgrade and maybe football recruiting would take a hit but maybe the regional nature of the conference helps both schools with local kids.

If the American gets a nice pay raise or the if the Big XII's demise is near the staying in the American is smart choice; however, from a fan standpoint I would support a Big East/MAC move as long as UC played a strong non-conference schedule.

Big East needs to be 11 member for round-robin home/away shedule. For the best interest of the league, they should kick nonperforming DePaul out and add UConn and Cincinnati. They kicked Temple out before for the same reason so it is not impossible.

Temple was only ever a football affiliate that got dropped, that's a lot different than kicking out a full member. I also think X would do what they can to keep Cincy out - they're going to want the same setup with Ohio State/Cincy/Dayton that Nova has with PSU/Temple/St Joe's, not equal footing.

As a UD grad, I wish we were in the Big East. Institutionally, we would make such a great fit.

Cincinnati joining the MAC for football is like Notre Dame joining the Big Ten for football: NOT GONNA HAPPEN. Same as Gonzaga joining the Big East; can’t wait to see those Gonzaga at Xavier volleyball matches Thursday night!!

For a basketball-first conference, there's a lot to be said for making sure you continue to be a top basketball conference nationally. Gonzaga won't be their preferred add, but someone else is going to have to make a case for addition based on something other than geography.

its been said many times before. If the BE expands (or any conference really) it will be with a school that they would want to be associated with when times are down. If Gonzaga BB fades, would they really make sense to be in the BE? SLU is showing signs of trying to improve, other than Dayton is anyone else even making an effort? UConn is not coming.
IMO filling spot 11 is down to those 2. Richmond has outside shot should they ever make some moves but they are far behind Dayton and SLU

Exactly. I think Dayton should already be in the conference despite their doubling of a regional market. They consistently do what it takes to put out a quality product.

SLU and Dayton know what they need to do in order to get an invitation. It's not a coincidence that Dayton is spending heavily on arena renovations, nor is it a coincidence that SLU hired Travis Ford after Jim Crews. When it's time for the Big East to renegotiate with Fox, both SLU and Dayton will be considered for expansion if it provides more content and revenue for the league. It's alot like the longtime rumors of Rutgers to the B1G. Both schools are an institutional peer to current membership. It's only a matter of time.

With regards to UConn, they will always have an open invitation to return to the league. SLU, Dayton, or whomever have no effect whatsoever on their possible return. They will always have a special invitation on the table. UConn knows this and the Big East knows this. They might very well return if the AAC fails to get a pay raise, or if it is determined they are forever locked out of the P5. However, that won't be decided for another couple of years. UConn has a safety net in the Big East if all else fails.

Like I said, those are the two most likely additions, but they can't sit back and assume geography alone will get them a spot.

SLU has got to really up it's game big time. This year has been a big disappointment. Fox doesn't need more content, they need more quality content. Right now, SLU is 7-7 and got blown out yesterday by 23 points by La Salle. Also the worry if Ford does turn it around, will he get snapped up real fast and then SLU is back to square 1? And I really don't think schools like Villanova, St John's, or Georgetown look at SLU as being an equal by any stretch of the imagination. And Dayton will still have the Xavier problem.

I do think however the big east will be looking at what happens in the AAC this year. If the AAC gets the same number of bids as the Big East, largely due to the 12 team non round robin schedule- I think there's going to be some pause given to having to have the round robin. I don't think it's this sacred cow that some people make it out to be.

The important aspect about SLU getting Ford wasn't Ford himself but rather the declaration of a significant financial investment into a proven winner. It was the same type of investment that SLU made with Rick Majerus. It's also why Dayton went with an experienced and successful coach in Anthony Grant. Both schools realize they are "on-deck" and that they need to be investing in their men's programs now in order to be ready for the call-up in a few short years. If either gets "poached" its because they had success at these stops and both have either started (SLU) or kept (UD) the ball moving forward.

You might not want to see SLU/UD as academic and institutional peers with VU, SJ or GU, but they are and that's why they were seriously considered for #11 and #12 in 2013-14. SLU has a great media market (with no NFL/NBA franchise in Winter) and UD has one of the best traveling fan bases in the country.

Nothing the AAC does will have an impact on what the Big East does moving forward. As of right now, CBS predicts only three bids for the American, and a whopping 8 for the Big East. I have a hard time seeing 8 bids for the BE, but the fact remains that the Big East is number two overall in conference RPI, and the American is number seven. In short, there is no correlation or causation between these two conferences.

Palm only projects it based on what's happened so far this year which isn't really realistic only because the round robin totally limits the number of bids. Someone HAS to finish 8th, and when you finish 8th you aren't winning more than 7 or 8 conference games- and with the teams that will finish there- they aren't making it with that.. It's literally almost mathematically impossible for the Big East to get 8 bids. Oh, and what you linked is 2 weeks old now. St John's and Providence are no longer likely. And Marquette never was really likely either.

If the AAC gets 5 teams in(which is possible- Wichita, Cincy, and SMU are extremely likely- and Houston is very likely now as well- all it would take is Temple or UCF to get hot in conference play and they're very possible as well)- and Big East gets 5 teams in- I think that will make the Big East look.

you have a point. I don't think SLU is where Ford wants to spend the rest of his career. if he turns things around and leaves, it will be obviously critical, his replacement be a quality hire

Rick Majerus was perfect for SLU, and it was sad to see him go. I really enjoyed his underdog teams at Utah and the SLU teams were similar. Great coach, RIP.
