Agreed it's a pointless debate to have now. Kay's the quarterback and it's the right decision. However I will never agree with you on Munchie always being as bad as you claim he was. It was regression, you could plainly see that he got worse from Pitt to Louisville.

I think part of the regression we saw was due to some underlying injuries which likely affected his mechanics and definitely hurt his practice time. Could be kind of an analog to Cash after he hurt the knee in the DePaul game.

Don't know the extent of Munchie's injuries but I always thought most of his issues were as much mental as physical. Obviously he's got a ton of mechanical flaws, but he seemed to play streaky at times. He'd get in a rhythm and play well for a series but then he'd go on an 0-8 stretch where he missed everything in sight. Munchie seemed to just get worse and worse as the season went on and just couldn't get out of his funk. Being an effective QB at the BCS level requires physical as well as mental capabilities and I'm just not sure Munchie has enough of either.

Tuberville has been quoted (as recently as today on the ESPN blog) that the offense will be multiple. I think the Kay supporters (all of us) should be encouraged by the fact we have heard about the Pistol considering Tuberville compared Brendan to KSU QB Collin Klein at the Belk Bowl.

The new OL coach also coached at Nevada last year which is the epicenter of the offense.

Agreed, if not more the former than the latter. Cincinnati was a running team last year and they were a damn good one especially at the beginning of the year when Munchie had the confidence to tuck the ball and run himself. Of course the passing game was never his strong suit but his ability to pick up yards with this feet made him an excellent weapon. Just ask Pitt.

But when his confidence started to fade so to did his ability to make smart decisions. Decisions like reading the defensive end properly and realizing when the receivers are covered so running for the first down is easier. That's the regression that was extremely noticeable from game-to-game early in the season.

^^^ Yep. I was at the Louisville game last year. Munchie could have ran for 200 yards against the Cards if he had done as you mentioned. It was there all night long. You are Racinejake are all over this.

Exactly. That's the kind of regression that Rath and others who have some deep-seeded hatred for Munchie Legaux don't get. He was serviceable because he generally made the right decisions with the ball in his hands. When he lost his confidence and stopped making those right decisions he became useless.

"Serviceable" is the perfect word to describe Munchie early on last year. Nothing really spectacular, but he certainly played well. He made good decisions and looked great especially when he ran the ball... But then he lost his poise/confidence and well... you know.

However, Munchie could never really throw the ball well. If you play quarterback, and you can't throw the ball well, then you shouldn't be playing quarterback. It's as simple as that.

I remember lot of his "bad throws" were actually the right decisions but his complete lack of touch and accuracy were what killed him.

WTS, unless Munchie made some heroic changes and is able to throw the ball consistently well... Kay has the starting job locked up already.
