SMU should be top 25 with everything they gave June Jones.

unfortunately....seems accurate although it shouldn't have been difficult to compile in today's world....hell, we are probably rated too high...especially over the wizards of Greenville.

I don't think the Rice job is that bad. You get to live in Houston, your kids get to go to Rice, and we've shown a remarkable tolerance for mediocrity in our coaching. This will be David Bailiff's 7th year and he is 30-44 with 2 winning seasons. How's that for job security?

EDIT: Oh, and Todd Graham has used one decent year at Rice as a springboard to like 8 different head coaching jobs, so can't be too bad on the resume.

In my book, I'm not sure how Iowa isn't number 1. Easy non-conference, low expectations, go 7-5 and get them to a bowl and your solid. Go 10-2....you're a God.

I definitely think Rice is too low. I'm not sure that I'd count living in Houston as a perk, though. . . . I've had that opportunity. :muttering:

Really? I thought they completely screwed Steve Logan. John Thompson's career wasn't helped by ECU... you can blame the man, but I'm sure that the school isn't completely without fault. Really, the only guy since about 1995 who's been a success there is Skip Holtz, and he didn't exactly ride off into fame and fortune. I think USM's ranked appropriately. I'd avoid ECU if I had other options as a coach.

Tech is pretty spot on. I think their assessment was lots of available talent but crappy facilities which is pretty accurate. Hoping the new president, Dr. Guice, actually gives some attention towards athletics unlike Dr. Reaneu.

they draw 55k...we draw 25k....amazingly unrealized potential...they should be able to ass-slap the other two on that alone

ECU is as much to blame for Thompson as USM is to blame for eLLLLLLLLLLLLoss. The same people who say Logan was screwed over (I agree he was) could just as easily say Bower was screwed over by USM. Really there are a lot of similarities to the jobs. Sky high expectations compared to the reality of the resources each has at their disposal, fan base that has a constant chip on their shoulder due to being the red headed stepchild in the state, and fans that do not tolerate losing well at all and will fly off the handle quickly. ECU has the ability to pay a little better than USM, but I believe USM is a place that's easier to win a lot of games. I think both are good non-AQ jobs that you better have thick skin to take.

The Bower/Logan comparison is inevitable. Bower still has a pretty OK relationship with the school and the area, though, which says something. He's also done zero coaching since he left, which also says something. To be specific, I think Bower was basically done and he knew it. If we screwed him, it was a gentle screwing.

As for EJ, I guess I'm one of the few USM fans who doesn't put all the blame on him. I think EJ is the kind of person who needs to be supervised. Left to his own devices, he'll hire his buddies and hump the secretary. He should never have been given even 10% of the authority he had at USM. Under a strong AD and President, maybe he could done better (e.g. at least won a game). We have to accept his record and USM's role in it, and I think ECU must do the same for Thompson.

I live in Iowa, and the state's interest in athletics is spread pretty thin over a lot of sports, more than just football--wrestling, girls basketball, baseball, even volleyball, etc., are all pretty big in the zillions of small towns here.

Don't get me wrong... EJ was a wreck of a man and far worse than we could ever have imagined. But somebody at USM selected the MoFo, and it has to be admitted : at least once, we hired someone who wasn't a good fit and wasn't set up for success. We're usually good at doing that.

How in the world can Tulane be ranked that low? I mean they are ranked below all but one of the new additions to CUSA. Surely the Big East status alone should have them ranked higher. Ok, ok, maybe not.

Other than us forgetting about basketball and letting James Green continue the downward spiral along with how Bower was let go...NO....I have no complaints in the big three coaching department since I started watching as a kid in '75
