It was.. Picking up women at USM was easy.. You find ladies that were easy on the eyes that guys weren't focused on, invite them for a beer, and you had plans for the entire night.

Stop your whining because not everyone believes our AD walks on water.

We have suffered from piss poor leadership ever since I've been a supporter. AD's with no vision for the future and very little expectations on what our program could be.

I think Hammond could be the best AD we've ever had, one could argue he already is, but thats not saying alot. He should be watched every step of the way, given credit where it is due and pushed hard when he comes up short.

I don't eat cheese and I definitely don't do wine...

I never said he walked on water. If you have read any of my posts regarding him, they have been objective, fact laden, and end result driven.

Am I pro Hammond. Yes. If he doesn't produce, will I accept that? Yes. Has he produced to date? Exceeded expectations.

Some of what RG did was as beneficial as it was damaging. But, he was never held to a measurable standard and got sucked into cronyism....that was my point using "measurable" in the previous post.

JH is being watched and has not dropped the ball yet. ...but "they" are waiting to pounce...his skin is thicker than theirs....and I like that.

I won't try and influence your opinion of Hammond. I will just say that in my opinion he is the best hope USM has. Just curious, do you know that he turned down a 7 figure income from some defense contractors to come back to Hattiesburg?

I think that is probably true. There's no doubt he loves USM and we all need to appreciate that. USM is where he did his original training and if General H ends up succeeding it reflects positively on Southern Miss.

USM's turf at the Rock was badly in need of being replaced. The money was being raised to replace it after next season. Estimated cost was over $500,000.

Well, when the tornado hit it went right by the stadium. In doing so it imbedded thousands pieces of glass into the turf. There was no way it all could be removed and the field declared safe. So now USM's insurance policy will pay for the field turf replacement. This will also allow a poor drainage situation to be remedied. While of course we all wish the tornado had not have happened, at least one benefit will come out of it.

That's great news.

I never understood why we went to an artificial surface... I guess it's cheaper.

Having just been through this debate, yes, artificial turf is cheaper. Real grass requires constant maintenance which usually includes several additional employees and their salaries; plus constant supplies of sod, seed, lawnmowers, fertilizer, ect....... Artificial costs more up front, but can go up to ten years with one time annual maintenance from the manufacturer. You can also better control drainage and use the field every day if you like. UNC Charlotte has 2 entire sets of rec fields on both sides of campus, both are completely artifical turf. Most BCS programs use real cause they can afford it, most non-BCS use artificial.

Uh, non-BCS? I think you mean non-AQ.

Well, one factor was rain. We had three straight seasons with a game played in hard rain and the field was turned to mud.

I say we pull a Boise and install black turf with an angry eagle stretching from 20 to 20. Then we wear black and gold uniforms all the time...no more of that white stuff at home. I mean, that's how Boise won all those footbawl games, amirite?

Insurance is going to pay to replace the field. We were originally going to replace it next year.
