The "Big East Conference (1979-2013)" title certainly looks like a tombstone.

One thing on my mind is whether the Big East/C7 will assume the Big East's history (akin to how the "new" Cleveland Browns took the Browns history prior to that franchise moving to Baltimore).

Of course they will assume the conference's history, Frank. And rightly so. It's their legacy

What would be a joke would be if the football side assumed the conference's history with only 1 charter member in that group.

I don't see the comparison with the Browns as legitimate.
