Did not expect to like or agree with him, but wow.

At some point we have to get to wear we don't accuse everyone who disagrees us of treason. Especially if you are a Senator.

RE: Ted Cruz
I think the guy is of the mindset that the more headlines he grabs, the better it is for his career. He may be right about that, actually. If I didn't know better, I'd say he's jockeying for the 2016 or 2020 Republican nomination for president, but it is a record fact that he was born in Canada, so that should be the end of that (insert Obama birther joke here).

Demagoguery exists because it works.

As someone else has pointed out, he wasn't bothered enough by all the Marxist professors at Harvard Law to go somewhere else.

I've heard it hypothesized that he's wanting to run for governor. Which (sadly) makes his behavior seem more rational.

I've heard Dan Patrick, too.

I'll be honest - what he said has not registered anywhere at all, not even as a headline item on the Washington Post politics blog I follow nor anything on cnn.com. At least, nothing that jumped out to me. Care to link to what he actually said, so context can be sorted out? I'm guessing this story died at the Texas border.

Slate's had some articles recently. The links don't seem to be working, though.

RE: Ted Cruz
An illustrative passage from the NY Times article:

------
Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, said that some of the demands Mr. Cruz made of Mr. Hagel were “out of bounds, quite frankly.” Senator John McCain, Republican of Arizona, issued a public rebuke after Mr. Cruz suggested, with no evidence, that Mr. Hagel had accepted honorariums from North Korea.

“All I can say is that the appropriate way to treat Senator Hagel is to be as tough as you want to be, but don’t be disrespectful or malign his character,” Mr. McCain said in an interview.
-------

Also said 12 Harvard Law faculty members supported the Communist overthrow of the US government. Not implied it, actually said it.

The post article has some quotes from Republicans.

That number might be low. Finding 12 who put such views unambiguously on record might be hard, but the idea that 12 or more have actually felt that way seems eminently plausible -- especially if one considers all Harvard Law faculty of all time.

Here's his quote, he attended Harvard from '92 to '95.

“There were fewer declared Republicans in the faculty when we were there than Communists! There was one Republican. But there were twelve who would say they were Marxists who believed in the Communists overthrowing the United States government.”

By all accounts people from across the spectrum and from various stages of his life describe the guy as a "raging a-hole"? How is that "neat-o" by any standard? How does that help our dis-functional government?

People from all across the spectrum and various stages of my life call me an a-hole too, so I can't possibly hold that against him. As for the dysfunctional government, you can hardly blame him for that. He's but one senator, in one house of Congress, in one branch of government.

That's a _very_ significant point that I missed. I guess I had just assumed tacit agreement.
