NIU football news...um...
Mike Santacaterina will be wearing #7 next year.
Robert Jones (class of 13 signed recruit) lifted 225 15 times the other day. IIRC Trever Olsen did it 12 times at his pro day.
NIU spring football is 23 days away!

There were a few LBs at the NFL Combine that had 15 or less reps on the bench.

how does a simple post about a school that draws about 10,000 and says they are going to build a 50,000 seat domed stadium, turn in to this post.
Attendance NIU? Wow it is almost impossible not to draw this conclusion.
This board does make a difference, NIU attendance is not a dead horse.
It is a live issue.

Live....to the fact of the senseless comments of why NIU doesn't draw then the inability of so many to face reality. Every year it comes up, and the demographics of the US, Chicago, DeKalb and NIU don't change. Money, alumni, history...what NIU IS what NIU is NOT.When opponent, day of the week, team record can sway attendance 10k, or 100%, how hard is it to understand? But eveyone has the answers. I just wonder how many have any background in sports business marketing or have any idea what happens outside the MAC and NIU, other than you know you hate the BCS, Big Ten, NW and "ILL-NESS"
And this board in the realm of NIU athletics? Really? 15k at home games, 20k at OB, of which what, 500 have been on this board? Please.
Yeah, 8/31 can't come fast enough, then all the authorities can stick to one thing at least....NIU FOOTBALL TEAM!

You know better than that. The attendance problem is with BOTH students and west-siders.
Don't talk about students "carrying" attendance when a large number of them are only in Huskie Stadium for 1/4 of the game.
Better 1/4 of a game then not at all...

I never knew NIU had attendance issues. I've always admired you guy's program from a far. I still remember the year where you guys went into Tuscaloosa and put it on the Tide.

When we beat Maryland and Alabama in 2003, and also through 2005 (maybe 2006) we were averaging way over 20K per home game. Now, even with a good team, we can't even get 20K. It's puzzling, and the supposed reasons for it have been discussed on this board constantly - TV, home schedule, economy, etc.

Are those lawn seats in your photo? I wish NIU would offer the same thing. Looks like a lot of people like the seating.

Yes they are. That picture was taken during the grand opening of our new stadium on-campus during The Turkey Day Classic vs. Tuskegee. For 30-years our home games have been played at Crampton Bowl which is about a mile off of campus. They capacity there was only about 24,000 so tickets for the Tuskegee, Grambling, Southern, and Jackson State games are extremely hard to come by. Our new stadium can seat over 30, 000 so we can now accomodate those games with no problem hopefully.

Why would people want or like lawn seating? I assume it would be cheap tix...but at the same time you're on ground level in the end zone & can't see s**t.
Good for people with little kids maybe...kids aren't as constrained.

RE: Now This Makes Sense????
Our playing surface actually sits down in the stadium and our lawn area sits on a small incline so the view of the field is actually pretty good. The seats for the lawn area are only 10 bucks and folks in that area are able to to bring along lawn chairs and coolers which makes it kinda cool.

Most of our regular seats are discounted to $10 on game day if you donate a can of food.
