Not until that RPI gets down to a reasonable number.

We play SWAC teams almost annually. And a road win would count more. I would swap ASU for Troy in a heartbeat.

Have you forgotten what happened the last/only time we played there?

State has always been there for UAB when we needed to fill a hole in the schedule, and those many favors deserve more consideration than some place like Troy.

One of the saddest days in UAB Athletics history.

I would rather get rid of those games altogether. They don't help our attendance, and they don't help our RPI. I would much rather see us try and get games with Belmont, Western Kentucky, Murray State, etc., even if it is just home and homes. Our OOC RPI is going to become very important if we expect to compete for the Tournament again, especially because we are going to have some really weak teams in the conference.

Every school has to schedule bye games to fill out a home schedule. They aren't going away.

That's fine. I'd rather avoid the SWAC altogether if possible though. Despite what many think about Troy, they are about 50 spots higher in the RPI than many SWAC teams. There are a lot of other weaker conferences that aren't quite as bad as the SWAC. I hate seeing teams with RPI's over 300 on our schedule.

I was sitting directly behind our bench about 3 rows back. I hope you guys enjoyed yourselves last night and that you enjoyed the campus all together.

RE: Texas Southern at Alabama State. Davis & Marsh
My point is that you always schedule three or four games that you hope you can get a big enough lead to get some of your players that don't play much some experience. Since we will always play those games I am suggesting we play Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Jacksonville State, and Samford two for ones.

It saves UAB a lot of money in that it does not have to pay a game guarantee.
It gives UAB more than likely a road win which is better than beating them at home.
It gives UAB fans a close road trip that we will have home court advantage more times than not.
It helps home attendance more than playing Savannah State or PVAMU.

Anyone that made the trip to JSU with us knows how fun that was.

Yes, I remember Carlos Williams breaking his leg. It was a freak accident. It was not ASU's fault.

I also would like to drop playing Troy in basketball for a while and play the teams I mentioned above in two for ones instead of being saddled with a home and home with Troy. At best they should be a two for one game as well. The only other in state team I would go home and home with is South Alabama.

By no means am I advocating playing a schedule of the teams I listed. Just merely saying if we are going to play two or three of those games any way, play them like I suggested. It's good for UAB and good for basketball in the state.

Oh and screw playing Alabama and Auburn.

Yep. I bult the Life Sciences building next to the stadium and actually broke the story about the stadium on this board several years ago. We even toured the former administration through our JSU project. I have spent some time on campus. Everyone is very friendly and I hope I can add to the campus in the future. I enjoyed my time in Mongomery.

I like Samford. That game makes sense. I like USA, that game makes sense. I don't like Troy home and home. If we are going to play SWAC teams, I just hope we don't wind up with more than one on the schedule in any given year. I am fine with the 2 for 1's, the only things that bother me about those schools is their RPI.
