Over the last few years, UTEP and Memphis records could be thrown out, because it was anyone's game. Even though they are the bball flagship, it's been a battle (although I don't know if this year, UTEP will be able to keep up).
I'm going to miss the UTEP series.
Me too. The Miners have been extremely competitive against the Tigers (they have actually won 3 of the last 5). It was a mistake that the two programs did not play twice a year every year in the regular season.
This has been a very good series. Memphis lost three times to UTEP in C-USA and only once beat the Miners easily (in fact, UTEP was the only one of the two to lay a true beatdown):
Memphis-UTEP series in Conference USA men's basketball (2006-13)
-02/22/06 (in Memphis): #4 Tigers won by 10 on ESPN2
-03/01/07 (in El Paso): #6 Tigers won by 11 on ESPN
-02/02/08 (in Memphis): #1 Tigers won by just 6 on CSS (UTEP was leading in this game late and ESPN kept flashing on the crawler during another game that #1 Memphis was in danger of losing)
-02/21/09 (in El Paso): #5 Tigers won by just 7 on ESPN
-01/20/10 (in Memphis): Miners won by 5 on CBSSN (ended the Tigers' 64-game C-USA winning streak)
-02/26/11 (in El Paso): Miners steamroll the Tigers by 27 on ESPN2 (worst loss of the Josh Pastner era; worst loss for a Memphis team since a 27-point beatdown @ UAB during the 1999-00 season)
-03/12/11 (in El Paso in the C-USA final): Tigers wins by 1 in a classic on CBS
-02/18/12 (in Memphis): Miners shocks the Tigers by 2 on SportSouth (Memphis hasn't lost a C-USA game since)
-03/08/12 (in Memphis in the C-USA quarterfinals): Tigers get their only easy victory in the series, winning by 18 on CBSSN
-03/06/13 (in El Paso): ????
