RE: Only school I hate losing to the New Big East is Memphis
With Marquette, Louisville, Cincinnati, and Memphis in the league for basketball from 1995 to 2005, Memphis didn't put Cusa on the map, though since then, at least in terms of the number of NCAA appearances, it's been about the only nationally relevant bball team.

Memphis just happened to emerge as a strong program again right after Louisville, Cincy and that other team left.

For me, it's ECU. Don't care at all about the others. Any of them.

I'll miss you guys and USM greatly. I hope you guys become a fixture in OOC scheduling if we don't end up all back in a league together in the near future.

I will miss UH badly. I also loved games in the Superdome. Tulane is moving out of the Dome, though, and I don't have any desire to watch USM or anyone else play on Tulane's campus. (I'm afraid of both handguns and Gypsy Moth Larvae.)

Hopefully we drop any future 1-AA ideas and pick up you guys. I'd love an OOC schedule that included ECU, then Miami (Ohio) or Toledo every year. (ECU because I like you, the other two because I hate them)

Same here. Marshall and ECU have a bond though that can't be broken. But I really enjoyed us playing ECU.

For those new to CUSA and didn't know the plane that crashed on Nov 14th 1970, was coming back from Greenville NC. ECU had just beat Marshall 17-14.

For those new here and you have never watched "We Are...Marshall" or read about Southern Airways Flight 932, you can do so here:

For me, it's Memphis bball. Over the last few years, UTEP and Memphis records could be thrown out, because it was anyone's game. Even though they are the bball flagship, it's been a battle (although I don't know if this year, UTEP will be able to keep up).

As for fball, I will miss my trips to UTEP's other home stadium in the DFW area.

Some of those basketballs games against UAB and Southern Miss (whom we've played more than any other school) were some of the baddest a$$ events I've ever been to. I'd LOVE it if we could find a way to continue our series.

Me too. The Miners have been extremely competitive against the Tigers (they have actually won 3 of the last 5). It was a mistake that the two programs did not play twice a year every year in the regular season.

This has been a very good series. Memphis lost three times to UTEP in C-USA and only once beat the Miners easily (in fact, UTEP was the only one of the two to lay a true beatdown):

Memphis-UTEP series in Conference USA men's basketball (2006-13)
-02/22/06 (in Memphis): #4 Tigers won by 10 on ESPN2
-03/01/07 (in El Paso): #6 Tigers won by 11 on ESPN
-02/02/08 (in Memphis): #1 Tigers won by just 6 on CSS (UTEP was leading in this game late and ESPN kept flashing on the crawler during another game that #1 Memphis was in danger of losing)
-02/21/09 (in El Paso): #5 Tigers won by just 7 on ESPN
-01/20/10 (in Memphis): Miners won by 5 on CBSSN (ended the Tigers' 64-game C-USA winning streak)
-02/26/11 (in El Paso): Miners steamroll the Tigers by 27 on ESPN2 (worst loss of the Josh Pastner era; worst loss for a Memphis team since a 27-point beatdown @ UAB during the 1999-00 season)
-03/12/11 (in El Paso in the C-USA final): Tigers wins by 1 in a classic on CBS
-02/18/12 (in Memphis): Miners shocks the Tigers by 2 on SportSouth (Memphis hasn't lost a C-USA game since)
-03/08/12 (in Memphis in the C-USA quarterfinals): Tigers get their only easy victory in the series, winning by 18 on CBSSN
-03/06/13 (in El Paso): ????

Exactly...if any one team "put" CUSA (basketball-wise) on the map, it's Cincinnati. They had some beastly teams in the mid- to late-1990's. Louisville was good, but not as good. Memphis was at the tail end of one coach's career, and made a bad hire to replace him. Charlotte, with their midget coach with the pornstache, was a strong team. Marquette was strong through much of that too.

What Memphis did, more than anything else, was to keep CUSA on the map after those schools left. In ways, I feel it was good and bad. We were obviously receiving a lot of attention, which meant CUSA was too. However, we were also running through the league like Montezuma's Revenge, which seemed to unfairly reflect negatively on the league.
