What I hope will start looking better would be the final 2014 MAC west standings showing Northern Ill. and Ball State below the Rockets. Most assuredly Toledo has had some real strong classes. But that does not always equate in the long run for a trip to Detroit and the MACC.

So CM, WMU and EMU will rise from the ashes and we'll beat out NIU and Ball for fourth in the West.

The Chips will fall where they may, and the Broncos still need a larger boat. Well Eastern, they should just get back to calling themselves the HURONS. 05-stirthepot

Much better class than you think.

RE: 2014 Football Recruiting Thread
Can we please hand out a scholly to Derich Weiland of Toledo Central Catholic? The kid is one hell of an athlete and was probably Central's most important player on their dominant team this year. He holds an offer from Kent State and is hearing from a bunch of Ivy League schools. The recruiting season is almost over for this year and I would love to see Weiland in midnight blue and gold.

There's a hell of a lot of football talent in Toledo, especially at Central Catholic, I would love to see Toledo dominate the local recruiting scene.

RE: 2014 Football Recruiting Thread
Kizer's fans might disagree with the "most important" part of that statement. 03-wink

I agree, there's a lot of local talent but I think the depth kind of got exposed in the play-offs. Regardless judgments on defensive play calling, that talent wasn't that much faster or stronger than Clyde's. Clyde ran by CCHS' DBs all game long. Clyde then got totally dominated in their next game by a team that then got smoke by the Labrons. There's some real depth out there that we just do not have locally. CCHS's talent looked good when it was playing against local talent. I don't think they would have faired any better than Clyde did against Trotwood.

Not exactly a "rah-rah" post on my part but that's what the reality looks like to me and what the results of the season seem to say.

When MAC schools can recruit the speed of Reedy, I think even they have the luxury of overlooking the potential of players like Weiland. If Weiland did come here, I'd be highly confident that over the 4 years, he's contribute, maybe even play fairly regularly by senior year. I didn't see anything that would say he would contribute sooner like Page did but if he comes here, hope I'm wrong.

CCHS beats Clyde 9 out of 10 times. They came in over-hyped, looking towards the finals and it bit them in the freakin' ass (I am still bitter and skeptical over that loss). They beat Trotwood last year in the finals, I think they might have faired just a bit better than Clyde. Not to take things off topic on this thread. Just gotta throw my 2 cents in.

Fair enough. Well hopefully Weiland lands well, wherever it may be.

Absolutely no way of knowing that for at least a year or so.

anyone else notice that travis smith has changed his long time ut commitment to a "soft verbal".kind of sounds that he may be headed somewhere other than ut????

He visited Wake Forest and will make final decision in a few days after discussing it with his family.

Minnesota has been hot on him too. Would not be surprised if a few Toledo verbals are not late switches to Wake.

Why the possible switches to specifically Wake Forest?

Isn't that wher coach Lembo from Ball State ended up? My guess is he was recruiting several potential Toledo recruits while there, and while UT may have seemed to them to be a better place to end up in the MAC, it's hard for us to now compete with him when he can dangle an ACC scholarship in front of them. I'm just not gonna get overly excited about signing day this time--will skip the "dog & pony" highlight show at UT as I'm sure the staff will paint a bright picture regardless of whom we keep in the fold & who we lost to others

I understand now why Wake Forest and Virginia have trouble competing in the ACC against schools like Miami Fla, Clemson and FSU

Ugh. Then that would be even worse to start losing some recruits to him. Where did Lembo end up again?

When a MAC coach leaves, he not only screws his own (former) school, it appears that he screws the rest of the league as well. Welcome to the MAC.

This is getting downright disappointing. If we can't win the MACC with the top recruiting classes year after year after year, how are we suppose to win with lower rated recruiting classes?

Hasn't stopped the schools that have won the MACC and/or regular season championship even though their recruiting "trailed" UTs, so maybe we'll be fine without the "top" class this time...but I am concerned that we will lose a handful of recruits late and not really be in a great position to replace them with similar players. Maybe our new DC can convince a recruit or two that it would be better to be a Rocket than a Boilermaker?
