It was gut-wrenching watching UAB's ladies get slaughtered on the offensive glass like that. This would have been a good time to give Dy'Man, Brittney & Kayla some more experience on just how physical it's going to be in conference play, I felt as if they could have helped the Blazers a lot last night, given the opportunity. Tulane was absolutely relentless on the boards, Michalea, God bless her, did all she could, but those Green Wave Women were just too big and strong, & she was not up to the task.
Nothing against the young lady from Tulane (Whitney Bibbens, I think is her name, #32) she put in strong work out there, but I have never, ever seen anyone play basketball in a helmet, facemask, yes, goggles, yes, but a helmet?? Not until last night...That had to be to some degree, a component of apprehension on the part of our players, to not injure her or themselves, but I admire Ms. Bibbens' courage and determination to play through the injury (Matt looked it up on courtside and found out she'd had an issue with concussions) that caused her to have to wear that thing in the first place. Yes, I did call Tim Melton at "The Zone" today and told him/them about this, and they went
?????!!!! Apparently, they couldn't recall at any other time in the history of the game of basketball of seeing a player, male or female, wearing a helmet on the court. The turnovers were just as painful as the relinquishing of so many offensive boards, the ladies didn't take very good care of the basketball when they enjoyed a decent lead, didn't take for Tulane to capitalize on those errors & seize the lead they would not give back. Ladies, have to shake this one off and get ready for Southern Miss on Sunday in Hattiesburg, another one they had on the ropes and let off the hook.
