The ACC would then regroup and add at least 6 to get to 12. My swag would be that they add these schools from the BE: UConn, Cincy, Temple, USF, UCF and Navy (fb only).

Let's go down this hypothetical road.

Presume chaos reigns this spring and the following conference raids occur:
1) B1G snags UVA and NC to expand to 16
2) SEC snags NCSU and VT to expand to 16
3) B12 snags Clemson, GT,Miami and FSU to expand to 14 (and have a FB title game)

ACC is reduced to WF, Duke, Pitt, Syracuse, BC, and Louisville as well as ND for BB only.

UConn and Cincy are automatic additions. That gives the ACC 8 all sports teams.

I agree, UConn and Cincinnati are the obvious first choices as the best BB and best 2-sport choices remaining on the board. If they choose to expand beyond 8 (which seems more likely than not - for security), I think USF and UCF would appear to be next to get the conference back into Florida after losing Miami and FSU (although at a much reduced level).

I don't expect that NotreDame stays at that point - and (if they did stay) would certainly not promise the same number of FB games (5). Perhaps reducing it to 2 per year - NotreDame's choice. I expect it'll fluctuate between the few teams they have any history with: Syracuse, Pitt and BC. But at that point, they may prefer whatever the C-7+ becomes.

If they want an ACC championship game in FB, they'll have to get there by adding schools that actually probably weaken it in FB - although they improve or deepen BB (Memphis and Temple) - or stretch it considerably geographically but don't weaken FB much (Houston and SoMiss). With Duke and WakeForest still around, I still think ECU gets stiffed. Of the two choices, I'd think weakened FB with a tighter geographic identity - which also happened to deepen BB gets the nod - Memphis and Temple are in.

North: BC, UConn, Syracuse, Temple, Pitt, Cincinnati
South: Louisville, Memphis, Duke, WakeForest, USF, UCF

And then they could claim to be the #5 conference ... the "best of the rest", just outside of the big 4. 03-hissyfit

Pretty much.

In this scenario, the Big 12 would also add Duke (North Carolina and a national following for basketball) and Pitt (Pennsylvania market, major city, natural rival to WVU). Those are the only 2 additions that would add value and it creates an 8-8 conference ready for the new era of college sports. If they could, they would remove Iowa State or Baylor and replace with Louisville or BC, those Cyclones and Bears are lucky it is hard to remove a team.

Why would they remove Baylor? 4-5 years ago sure, but Baylor had a national title in Women's Basketball last year and should repeat this year, 3 straight bowl games including a win this past year over one of the top PAC12 teams and their men's basketball has been to the Elite 8 2 out of the last 3 years. Baylor is one of the top programs in the Big 12 currently and there is no one looking to kick them out. Should the realignment armageddon destroy the Big 12, Baylor is not going to fall to a lesser conference. They will be in one of the Big 4.

I think the next move such as UNC or any combo of UNC, Georgia Tech and UVA or even Duke, or possibly all four will set off a realignment frenzy including schools/leagues reaching out and grabbing one school after another. The SEC ,Big 12 and ACC will all expand, leaving Cincinnati in a great position. Cincinnati will be attractive to the Big 12 and ACC at that time and it can decide which direction it wants to turn. For my liking, it would be the Big 12. The ACC will be battered and limping into expansion looking for any suitors it can find. The Big 12 is a better football league and that is where Cincinnati should go. It would also give the Big 12 access to Ohio recruiting which at the time is producing nearly 100 division one football recruits per year behind only Florida, Texas, and California. This could happen before the end of the year. I don't see Cincinnati ever going to the SEC and or the SEC going for Cincinnati. Louisville could possibly look that way, but Cincinnati to the south, never.

I'm so old I remember when Baylor was on the verge of being sent to the Big East with the rest of the Big 12 castoffs after the Pac-16 apocalypse.

UConn, a program with far more national success than Baylor, is out of the power structure right this very minute, so don't think it can't happen to you.

Q: are the rumor mongers still putting deadlines on these predictions, or have they wised up?
