RE: North Carolina to Big Ten?
An ACC without UNC and Virginia (and possibly Duke), is a big step BELOW the Bg10/16 and SEC (for viewers East of the Mississippi).

Great BB => but at this point who would care?

FB => the bell cows would be Vtech, Clemson, FSU and Louisville. The rest of Wake Forest, Boston College, GTech, NCState, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Miami (which hasn't been good in quite some time).

The ACC desperately needs Miami and FSU to bring back the glory days of early 1990s. Without them,

No, this move could be excellent.
Big XII will have to move at some point.
Might cause SEC to grab WVU and NCSt...

This might get VERY interesting...

We were rooting for quiet or Anarchy.
I guess if this is true, we want anarchy.

Stakes?
ACC membership or Hell.

>>>>

Triple A, start the doomsday clock!

$EC is not going for WVU.

Va. Tech... and NCSU.

Big XII can sit on it's fat fanny as long as Texas is in the fold.

At this point, we are not getting into the ACC even if they lost five schools (UNC, GT, NCSU, VA, Va Tech).

Our football just isn't there yet. Neither are our academics.

Yeah, I always screw up the VA Tech / WVU thing.

I still think we can squeeze in if we get anarchy. And I think that is what we are rooting for...

It's going to take a masterful leadership job by Tom Bowen.

I bet that he is more capable than his predecessor. 03-lmfao

I don't know if that is saying much. We are going to need a top AD in the NCAA performance.

When we make the ACC, the ACC will = 2012-13 CUSA.
Banowsky will probably be commisioner, too.

(02-19-2013 07:52 PM)TripleA Wrote:  You guys are a riot. This rumor was started by a Maryland fan website, and repeated all over Twitter.

Matt Hayes of the Sporting News tweeted that this is true, but it is NOT news. UNC has had a standing offer from the B10 for months. Much like Notre Dame has had one for 20 years. UVA has one, too. Ga Tech perhaps has had discussions. But that's all there is.

The B10 took MD and Rutgers b/c UNC and UVA said no.

Is it possible this could happen? Sure. Even Hayes says the B10 going to 16 or beyond is inevitable. But nothing will likely happen until there is some clarity with the exit fee lawsuit.

As far as our chances to the ACC, if it gets raided, my best guess is we sit between 3rd and 7th on the ACC invite list, depending on whom they lose. This is independent of any improvements we make in football, which can't hurt.

I think the B12 is a longer shot b/c more teams would be in front of us, due to the B12 being able to draw from a wider geographic area than the ACC.

But for now, it's still status quo, AFAIK.

Thanks you.

I mentioned the site was unfamiliar...

The rest- just interesting palaver- me too.

I won't believe this is in the works until I see it from a verified media hack source (ESPN, CBS Sports, Yahoo Sports, etc).

Obviously you hate this guy. Let it go and give us all some good commentary. You usually have something good to talk about. F!

RE: North Carolina to Big Ten?
Two minor points. First, Tom Bowen is not going to make the difference in negotiatuons and get us an invitation above another school that was ahead of us. That's just not how this process works. Hell, Fred Smith has had George Bush call Deloss Dodds at Texas for us. How's that worked out so far?

Now, if Tom Bowen had shown up 16 years ago and accomplished the things Tom Jurich did at Louisville for that entire period, then PERHAPS we could have moved up a spot or two. But the order of ascension to the next level is something that hasn't changed much in decades. Improving football absolutely helps. but the biggest factor is having our spot in line finally get to an opening. We're going to be behind UC and UConn to the ACC, no matter what we do. And the time frame is probably short, which makes it even harder.

I'm oversimplifying b/c the next few spots likely depend on who leaves, but it's still determined mostly by factors outside our control.

Second thing, if enough chaos ensues and we make it into a depleted ACC, it won't be another version of CUSA. It will be closer to the BE we thought we were joining when we were first invited.

Never say never, I guess, but after talking with UNC officials tonight the idea they have anything going on with the B1G seems far-fetched

The jackleg that started this stuff on twitter is now backtracking a bit. I think something will happen with the Big Ten at some point, but it is not happening right now.

B1G to expand to 132.
Create divisions.
Withdraw from NCAA.
Draw up own rules and governing body.
Pay athletes.
Create new post-season playoff structure.
Sign new TV deal.
