RE: Illinois Aims for Stronger Chicago Presence
Cross promotion works folks, NU is cozying up to the Cubs as much as possible and attendance has increased greatly the last 3 years as the relationship has deepened.

I get why, but Peoria is a tough sell, too much Orange. I would love to see more NIU stuff in Peoria. About the only thing NIU I see in Peoria is a big billboard near the hospital downtown, for the school of nursing.

If NW is going to cozy up to the Cubs, maybe NIU should cozy up to the White Stockings.
[/quote]

1) White Stockings
2) Wolves
3) Schaumburg baseball team (Frontier League)
4) Gary Railcats ( American Association Baseball). Yeah I know, NW Indiana not an easy sell but both Indiana Big 10 teams are horrible and NIU is closer to Lake County, Indiana than Ball State is. Gary averaged 3300 per game last year. Would help if the Huskies brutalized Purdue this year.

The White Sox and Illinois started a cross-promotional agreement last year.

Then the wolves, rail cats and schaumburg need to be pursued

Railcats has come up before, and has to be the absolute dumbest idea I ever heard of. 1st, they are in ANOTHER STATE. Really, people are going to drive from NWI to drive at minimum hour and a half? THEY HAVE NOT INTEREST. NO ONE FROM ILLINOIS GOES TO THE GAME EITHER! Ever here of Purdue? Indiana? ND? Even Purdue Cal. Whe on earth would they go to DeKalb? Cause NIU did and would "beat Purdue?"LOL. Maybe we can get the games on channel 56 too.

I would call for the immediate termination of ANYONE putting a dime into Railcats.

And by the way, a friend a long time ago had an NIU jacket on at a bar on State Line road (Cal City/Hammond). Girl saw it and said "Oh, a Northern Indiana Uninversity jacket! Where's that?" And she wasn't kidding.

They already have Central Illinois and then south of there. I think the big thing is just staying connected with the massive alumni base in the Chicago area, which they did a terrible job of under Guenther. Guenther basically ignored it, and that infuriated a lot of people.

Yup. They are still paying for giving Mackovic the reigns and then he turned his back on the school. That guy is the lowest of the low class. What killed me was when they played ASU I heard part of the game, they intervies him, he took pics with Illinois people and Barnhart payed homage to him like he was an icon.

In all reality, how many of you invite your friends , neigbors and co workers to come to a football game ? Forget about sports marketing at NIU, seize the moment promote yourself as a one person Huskie ticket salesman.

I bring people all the time. But that does not make up for poor marketing.

I have said the same, and tried more than once. I am done trying.

I sent a letter to about 15 alumni friends after OB, telling them of how great of a time I had, and going to home games is fun, supporting school, and only one cared enough to respond, and he now puts Wisconsin football ahead of NIU. Well, other than the usual guy who lives in Naperville, always wants to go, then complains Labor Day is his cabin, sept-oct is hunting, weekdays don't work for kids and november is too cold.

Throw in all kids activities, that about how most alumni feel...it's not a priority and about 10 things everyweekend rank higher unfortunately

I invited neighbors and coworkers to games. They are surprised (positively) about the tailgate atmosphere and quality of NIU football. Most are surprised (negatively) that the tailgate and bar crowd doesn't translate into attendance within the stadium. They are also surprised how close DeKalb is to the western burbs.

Why are there no signs promoting NIU FB longest home wining streak in DeKalb or NIU satellite campuses?

Maybe consider getting busses to transport residents to and from games.

Humm...how about...

Huskie buses picking up people at HyVee and dropping them off directly at the stadium. Something like 3, 2 and 1 hr before kickoff.

Charge $1-$2 per person and allow UNOPENED Booze to be on the bus for that route only.

They don't have to pay for $10 parking and HyVee (a good sponsor) gets some extra foot traffic.

See, this is where marketing needs to kick in with ads and commercials. Assume your audience is dumb and keep highlighting the distance between Aurora/Naperville (or other suburbs) and DeKalb. Also, make commercials showing the taligating around the stadium. Show the fun, sell the sizzle, and then highlight the season and single ticket prices.

Also, don't forget to highlight our winning streak and the Orange Bowl experience!!

Imagine if you enter DeKalb and it says,"Home of Huskie stadium- ## wins, longest winning streak in the NCAAF"
Various signs saying you are # miles from Huskie stadium ## wins, longest winning steak in the NCAAF"

There is SO much that can and needs to be done. Much of it would not cost that much money.

As I said in my previous post, Athletics needs to create commercials that show and sell the sizzle, and then blanket Chicago and Rockford TV with them.

I've said before they should have a big sign on the railroad bridge on Annie Glidden saying Welcome to Huskie Country or Entering Huskie country. Something with that and NIU logo & huskie. Maybe only for Football season, which is fine for me.

Agree!
All year round! If you enter Rockford , it says home of the ##### 17nth straight National champion!
Why not in DeKalb?

That same sign at the first light when you get off of 88 would be much cheaper to put up and maintain.

Messing with rail bridges is not cheap.
