When I look at UC's conference predicament I blame nobody but the people who live in the community. The university and the athletic department has done its part.
"When in doubt, blame the customers." is the mantra of failed enterprises everywhere.
I do not see one's observations regarding the ignorance of Cincinnatians as "blaming the customers."
Then we have a comprehension issue amidst all this talk of "ignorance" and "mental midgets". How is saying: "I blame nobody but the people who live in the community." not blaming the (non)customers?
Quote:By the way - in our society "ignorance is not a defense" is the mantra relied upon by those who are well informed and not mental midgets.
Once again we have a comprehension issue. In our society, "Ignorance is not a defense" is typically applied to those who break a law or rule. Which law or rule have the "people who live in the community" broken with regard to UC by choosing to spend their time and/or money elsewhere? How exactly are "the people who live in the community" primarily responsible for "UC's conference predicament"?
By the way, are the "people who live in the community" also responsible for Xavier's "conference predicament"? What about Mt. St. Joe's? Cincinnati St.?
Let me expand upon my original statement. I took the comment one step further to include the entire discussion above. Ignorance displayed in the community and perpetuating that ignorance is to blame. Examples, as stated above, lack of parking and an abnormal criminal atmosphere around campus.
In reality there is ample parking and crime has been overstated. Sure there could be closer parking. Again there is at least 1 if not 2 new public garages going in around campus. UC is an urban campus. Urban environments tend to have some level of crime. However, the levels have been grossly exaggerated.
"Ignorance is not a defense." You are correct - the phrase is typically applied to someone breaking the law. Unless I missed something, we are not applying this in the legal context but to societal behavior in general. "Ignorance is not a defense" should be adhered to by all in their dealings. One using a false statement as to why they do not come to Clifton, Hyde Park, Mt Adams, UC, Mt St Joe, X, ect... should be called on the carpet or educated. I just do not see how it's UC, X, or Mt St Joe's duty to battle every misconception of the public.
As for conference affiliation. I was not speaking to that specifically. I see Cliftonave spoke to it above. My
personal opinion is the community and region are best served by UC being in the best conf possible.
