And this coming from a Lakers fan.
Jordan was a product of the Media. And he really didn't have a rival in the NBA.
So, Trent Dilfer, Mark Rypien, Brad Johnson, and Jeff Hosstetler were better quarterbacks than Dan Marino?
After all, they all have a ring.
I don't believe in "better." I believe in winners. BYU might not have been the best FB team in 1984. Andre Ware might not have been the best football player in 1990. But in both cases, they are the winner and no one else is. Is Dan Marino a "better" player? I think that's a meaningless question. I don't know if the answer is "no" but it damned sure isn't "yes." The final score is everything. Jordan will always be looking up at Otto Graham IMHO.
That's ridiculous. All things being equal, you'd really take one of these stiffs over Marino? Jim Kelly?
Really?

Easily the dumbest argument I've ever seen for not being the greatest.

This thread was supposed to be about him coming back at 50. I think that was what was inferred by the thread title.
Why do threads have to move to another plane and posters ignore the point of the thread? An OT response is sometimes necessary, but this isn't about who was the greatest...is about his possibility of returning.

Who would he guard? the 2 and 3's would blow past him and the 4's would back his ass down and shoot over him. I have no doubt that he could be effective some way on offense for a minute or two at a time though.
If Jason Kidd can still be a solid defender at age 40 on a top team with a bad back and guarding even smaller quicker players I think Jordan's savy enough he could do enough to get by on that end. His value though would certainly be his mid range offenive game.
Even when MJ was playing at 38 with the Wizards he was starting to become a liability on the defensive end. Now take 12 years of not playing plus the natural limitations that come with age and his team would basically play 4 on 5 on the defensive end unless they went straight zone. Even then a 4 or 5 would be able to back him down and shoot over him.
WTS, I am positive he could be effective as a spot up mid-range shooter on offense for short periods.

That Washington lottery team only gave up 1 more point per every 100 possession when he was on the court as a 40 years old than the Bulls championship team when he was 33. Obviously his defense would be a concern at 50 but I still think he would be smart enough to get by.

He was the liability in Washington instead of Kukoc and Harper.

I think he does... to himself. He's probably the most competitive person in any sport, ever. If he thinks he can't do it at 50, he's going to try to prove himself wrong. I've been waiting for this, actually. I think it happens at some point.

lulz....levy and norwood ruined a legacy....the antithesis of Joe Montana....just think if Elway didn't win those last two...
but back on topic....the person that said MJ may do it b/c of his ego (paraphrasing) may be right...and it will be more laughable than the Wiz/MLB experience...MJ needs What About Bob treatment....
