New facilities at Marshall are on schedule
http://www.herdzone.com/genrel/021613aaa.html

Work on four new skybox-level suites at Joan C. Edwards Stadium “will really take off” in the next few weeks, said Scott Morehouse, MU’s Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Game Operations.[/b]

The $3 million project will add four 24-seat suites to the top level of the stadium pressbox – two at each end. Those 2,000-square foot suites already are rented by four unannounced donors at $60,000 annually, under five-year contracts (through the 2017 season).

A third elevator in the pressbox tower – it will fit between the two existing elevators -- is another addition.

“We’re stepping up and moving forward in the stadium, just as we are on the various projects that are being funded by the ongoing Vision Campaign,” Marshall Athletic Director Mike Hamrick. “These suites are just another way we are enhancing the game-day experience for our supporters.

“We continue to make needed additions, renovations and upgrades in our facilities. Work is ongoing at the soccer stadium site, and we’re going to break ground on the indoor practice facility this spring.

Thanks. Its still a little frustrating wondering what we could be capable of funding and building at this point if we would have had more than two winning seasons(barely) since joining C-USA.

This is a drawing of the Indoor Practice Facility and Hall of Fame Atrium(center), the sports medicine translational research facility and student athlete academic center(left) and existing weight room(right). Joan C Edwards Stadium is just out of the shot, its on the other side of the weight room. Construction will begin on it this spring.

Any idea how much the indoor practice facility is projected to cost?

The IPF and Hall of Fame Atrium will cost about $14M. The sports medicine facility will cost about $7.5M and the academic center will cost about $3.5M. The soccer stadium will cost about $5.4M.

Dropping some big dough on these facilities. Supposedly the soccer stadium and IPF both will be top 3 in the country. The IPF will be full length football field along with an indoor track that can host NCAA events. Not sure what the seating capacity will be yet.

Those are renderings and not drawings. Drawings are free hand and renderings by computers. Just in case you wanted to know. ;-)

BTW, congrats on the new facilities!

West is Best, you must be a young pup. "Drawings" of what a building will look like have always been called renderings and that was taking place long before computers were around to do the work. The plans for a building are usually referred to as drawings/working drawings and they are also now all done, almost exclusively, by computer.

Hopefully after all of these are complete, Hamrick announces plans for a baseball stadium. I know for a lot of Marshall fans they could care less if we had a stadium, but those student athletes deserve one. It doesn't have to be fancy.

After a baseball stadium, I hope Hamrick has plan to replace the Cam Henderson Center. The CAM was never built correctly but has served us well for the past 32 years. Would like to see the CAM tore down and a new stadium go in there with a practice floor and of cource a new natatorium, since Fitch Natatorium is located in the Henderson Center. Herd Basketball could play 2 years in the Big Sandy arena and Swim Diving either in the YMCA or comp. place.

You would be surprised the response if Marshall could build a nice 4,000 seat baseball stadium by the community.

People love baseball. Check out attendance for minor league games. For fans to support it though the expectation is at least 4,000 permanent seats (AA stadium size) with club lodges. Anything less is a small time experience.

There are still a few architects that'll do renderings by hand. But they are few and far between.

But banker is correct, most everything now is done with the use of AutoCAD or Microstation.

I think 4k is to big. Somewhere around 2500 and 3000 would be about right. And if it could attract a team from the Frontier League would be all the better. I don't think Charleston would allow a SAL team to go in Huntington.

The new suites will increase the official capacity from 38,019 to 38,115. The stadium attendance record is 41,382.

This answered my main question. Congrats on the new facilities and good luck getting the baseball stadium!
