Rice Takes Down #4 Stanford and Mark Appel 5-1
Couldn't ask for a better opening day of baseball. Austin Kubitza pitched 6 shutout innings and recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts against a very potent Stanford offense (expected to be one of, if not THE, best offense in the country). Owls offense did just enough against arguably the most highly regarded pitcher in the college baseball (and last year's #8th pick in the draft).

That is a great win! Good to see the SEC and PAC go down today. If ECU would have won it would have been a sweep of the 'boys'. Anyway you cut it, it was good day for CUSA baseball.

I sure hope that USM and Rice get sweeps. I'd like for us to both be national seeds this year.

nice start for the season for 2 of the better C-USA teams this year... Anytime you can thump two of the media darlin' conferences it's a good day.

Way to go Rice! Do you guys have another dominant pitching staff like you did when you won the CWS?

Nowhere near that level, as we had 4 all-american, first round draft picks on that team (Humber, Niemann, Townsend, Aardsma), but the pitching will still be a team strength.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching Cingrani in P'cola last year. He'll be in the 'Nati very shortly (if not this year).

Nope, the Astros don't need to draft Appel (once again).

Rice's pitching was sick this weekend. Nice series win to start the season for the Owls

Ditto to you guys over Mizzou and Tulane over SHS-- all against quality opposition.
