VCU to add women’s lacrosse in 2015


VCU’s board of visitors voted to approve the addition of women’s lacrosse starting in the fall of 2015 to ensure compliance with Title IX.

Due to VCU’s enrollment of 55% women to 44% men, the school is required to provide gender equality in it’s educational programs, including providing athletic participation opportunities in proportion to male and female enrollment.

VCU currently participates in eight men’s and women’s sports and hasn’t added a D1 sport since bringing women’s soccer to VCU in 1995.

COYLE, DECKER JOIN WOMEN’S LACROSSE COACHING STAFF

RICHMOND, Va. – There's one thing for certain about the newest program to join the VCU Athletics family, there won't be a lack of passion and enthusiasm when it comes to the VCU women's lacrosse program.

Head Coach Jen O'Brien announced the addition of two of the bright, young coaches to her staff in Tara Coyle and Meg Decker. Both were four-year collegiate stars and will join the Rams this spring in preparation for the opening season of VCU Lacrosse in 2015-16.
