Seeing Josh using coach speak during interviews doesn’t bother one bit. It’s his thingy, we are on a roll, so let it be. Cut him some slack on this because IMHO it’s much to do about nothing.
BTW, the OP’s talking points are excellent and I have no problem at all if Josh sees it and decides to use it.
Also, it's not as if he's been in front of the camera for the last twenty years. He's still new at this stuff and doing one hell of a job IMO.

He just said it, twice, again in the post-game with Wolo. "Marshall's a good team, well coached, good players." And "we're their Superbowl". I hope he keeps on saying it to all the knuckleheads with Wolo-type ears. I'm sure he's smarter than that. He's playing it. Boogey down, CJP.

Oh yeah, there is no doubt it is just a joke at this point. He even screwed it up and Wolo started laughing...
Did the same thing at the halftime interview, even hesitated for a second and then finished, Parrish had as large of a smile as his mouth makes during it.

I am surprised that people have not figured this out yet.
It’s his way of throwing a big middle finger to those complaining about what he is saying.

(02-13-2013 03:08 PM)salukiblue Wrote: "Look at this team. 20 wins. 3 losses. We have won 14 games in a row and are the ONLY...yes the only team out of 330 D-1 schools not to have lost a game on the road this year.
Now I understand that in this 14 game win streak we haven't knocked off murderer's row, but you know what we HAVE done? Won. We have done what is asked of us and we will continue to do so if we keep playing the same way we have been: playing good defense, being unselfish on offense and giving maximum effort.
The ONLY knock of this team right now is that we dropped the only games that really mattered. That isn't true. ALL games matter. Did Kansas' loss to an RPI 200+ team possibly hurt their NCAA tourney seeding? Likely. Did Alabama's home loss to Tulane make their bubble prospects dimmer? Sure.
Like I keep saying..ALL wins matter, and the fact we haven't had breakdowns like pretty much EVERY other team in the country has to count for something.
And as for the losses...let's go back 84 days ago to the Bahamas. We played and lost to two darn good teams. There is no shame in dropping neutral site games to the likes of VCU and Minnesota. But you know what, in both those games we were right there in the end.
Versus VCU we were down two with the ball with less than four minutes to go. Versus Minnesota we were down three with the ball with less than two minutes. A couple things change in either game and we walk out winners.
...and let's not forget we were playing without Geron Johnson in the VCU game and the Minnesota was his first ever D1 game. No doubt Geron has improved tremendously since November and the game has really slowed down for him. So the question then becomes..is this team better than the team that played in the Bahamas, and the answer simply is 'yes.'
We can also talk about the Louisville game but has been addressed before: obviously we showed we were capable of playing with one of the best teams in the country that day and many people think with a couple calls going the other way we win that game.
I say all this to to simply say this is a darn good team. We've won every game we were supposed to run away with, and I think if you put this team that was on the floor tonight or even the past three weeks in the Bahamas, they win the Battle 4 Atlantis.
Our goal is to continue what we have been doing for 60 days in a row now: win. And if we keep doing that people will have to take notice and realize what we have going on here at Memphis. Thanks."
The agendites are running out of subject matter. Hopefully, we will soon beat a really bad team by less than 10 points so you guys can get back on point.

Bingo. Good grief, not only do people want to tell him how to coach, who to play and when to call time outs, blah blah blah...they also want to put words in his mouth?
Just win, baby.

Funny thing is if I said the op was an email I sent to Jerry Palm I would have gotten a bunch of +'s but since it was used in a hypothetical "say this instead of that" the usual suspects take their digs.

I understand where you are coming from, but it's obvious Pastner is doing it now as a joke. Did you see his interview after the game with Parrish and hear the postgame interview on the radio? The more and more media tries to make fun of his "good teams good players" statements, the more and more they look like idiots/a$$es. Your op is not bad though.

Go back and listen to his in-game interview in the first half, Pastner has been reading this board and taking notes.

I get ya. But even his halftime comments to GP were odd. GP asked some questions about adjustments or other typical halftime stuff and JP responded how good UCF was and what a great coach Donnie Jones is...made a quick mention about Geron playing at a "high level" and then went back and talked about what a good team UCF is and how Donnie Jones is a dear friend and a great coach.
If it is an inside joke,a thumb your nose at the local media, that is cool. BUT this game was televised nationally and people who might be interested in the situation might hear that interview and be like "wtf?"
Just a weird angle to dig you heels in on when, as the op suggests, there are SEVERAL salient points that can be made as to why Memphis should be viewed as a threat to deserve a high seed and make a deep run.

RE: Pastner should drop the tired "rah rah CUSA" and just make this statement:
The complaints about Josh's comments are more tired than the comments themselves. I think it's time we all had some fun with this.
From now on, during the post game interview, everyone draw a grid with 5 boxes across and 5 boxes down. In each box, write one of the following:
Energy...players playing at a high level...teams are really good...a lot of parity in college basketball...win streak..road streak...high energy...superbowl...indy 500...kentucky derby...haters...Chris Vernon...improvement...no slippage...energy givers not energy takers...well coached...great players... could play on any team in the top 10...just shows how tough cusa is...wanna thank the fans...need them to be the sixth, seventh and eight man out there...wanna thank the teachers, doctors, the military and all the 1st responders...they are the real heroes...winning is hard
Every time Josh says one of these, put an X in the corresponding box. When you fill a row with X's, stand up and yell "CJP!"
Another option would be to just do whiskey shots every time Josh says one of the key phrases and see who is the last man standing...

I don't really give a damn what he says, how he says it or if he looks weird saying it as long as they keep winning. In the end, so what? Just keep winning.
