MSU...huh?
Okay, I went nuts last night at the end of the Michigan at MSU game. Not because MSU won by 30. I really didn't care about the outcome.

However, Izzo deployed 3 players that obviously never see the floor. NONE OF THEM HAD THEIR NAME ON THE BACK OF THEIR JERSEY.

Everyone else had their names on their jerseys, and these 3 didn't.

Seriously? What is up with that? If I was a walk on and went through grueling Izzo practices, at the very least it would be nice to have my name on the back of my jersey rather than be treated like a no name clown taking up a bench seat.

Am I the only one who feels like these guys are disrespected by Izzo? Or is there a different side to the story?

A kid my son played with was on the practice squad at MSU for two years. They know what they're getting into. Trust me, they were happy as he11 to see the floor in such a huge game, and in front of such a vocal crowd. Many don't even finish the season, so it's probably not prudent to stitch their name on the uni just yet.

If I were Hawkins I'd show some clips of that game to my team. If ever there was an example of how defensive intensity can rattle a team, that was it.

RE: MSU...huh?
I agree Dip.

But seriously? How can a big time program like MSU have 3 guys at the end of their bench without names on their jerseys? How is something like that overlooked? Or worse, he doesn't allow them to have their names on their jerseys.

I realize those guys were beyond happy to just get in the game (evidenced by the banked in free throw by one of them....pure adrenaline rush on his part)....but again, how does this happen?

Did you wake up on the wrong side of your crib today? It's ok DB, I'm fine with your tough guy act on the web board.

First come the bait.
Then comes the insult.
Then comes the redirection.
Then comes the name calling.

I'm sure to get something back in return for saying this, but I can't believe people on this board actually put up with this nonsense.

It's a web board... can't take anything personally. I have fallen victim of this with regard to DB... We ended up in a pretty great back and forth during the Cubit firing time frame... all in all I can respect DB for his consistent stances... even if he DRIVES ME NUTS sometimes... Can't always be daisies and sunshine here... even though I tend to lean towards the positive side of things...

Think of how boring this board would be without DB posting every 2 minutes...

I'm not looking for daises and sunshine. There are plenty of people on this board that I don't agree with from time to time, however I still have a great deal of respect for those posters because they put forth their opinions with actual substance, and in some cases personal experiences.

A couple of those walk-ons don't even travel with the team - they are just practice players. Also 13 and 44 were recently added to the team.

I think they have to "earn" their name on the back of their jerseys. I like that strategy.

Thank you for letting me/us know that two of them were recently added. That explains the situation a little bit.

I'm not a fan of "they have to earn their names on the back of their jersey" idea. There are plenty of highly touted frosh who have been in Izzo's program over the years that didn't earn a darn thing. I would think that going hard in practice and showing up on time would be enough for Izzo. But as you mentioned, if a few of them were recently added, then I understand the conundrum.

Aside from all of this mindless number worrying, did anyone notice that the three officials last night are guys that do our games ALL of the time? Isn't it funny how they are able to do a Big 10 Huge Game and we have to criticize these and other officials all the time. MSU committed 14 fouls in the game. We do that in a half. You know what, it makes a big difference when you have real talent out there to officiate as opposed to the players that we are forced to watch. Can you imagine what that front line of MSU would do to our timid front line? It wouldn't be pretty. We wouldn't have won the Buffalo game if they weren't called for twice as many fouls as us. Did you hear the Hawk complain about that? I don't think so.

Well sledgehammer, you "succinctly" made the point for me. I was trying to say that it's a different game.

1. Big ten fans routinely complain about officials...which are a lot of the same guys we see at UA and the rest of the MAC.

2. Judging their job against michigan is slightly misleading. Michigan is last in the country in drawing fouls I believe. To be blunt, they aren't very aggressive
