RE: black outs, white outs, green outs...
I skipped all the posts so if this is a repeat, I apologize.

The reason people "out" you is because historically you are the best team in the conference. Fans of opposing schools get excited when Memphis comes to town because it is a big measuring stick for their team and, for most teams, it's the biggest home game of the year. To add more excitement, opposing schools will "white, black, green, gold, magenta" out. This shows a sense of unity between the fans and the team and creates a good atmosphere for fans to go to.

And it works sometimes. We got y'all last year with our Black Out.

I really would use it to my advantage if some school black out my team and my team color was black, I would say something like they think they are us, well let's show them who is the real thing. I just think when a team uses black against USM and they don't have black in their school colors it is just saying they wish they had what we do. Of course I am old school and I think you take pride in who you are and promote that not some other identity.

Probably right, I don't remember Memphis being a huge game compared to someone like Cincy. I'd imagine we had black outs for Cincy though.

Until Cal came, the Memphis/UNCC game didn't really mean anything to either fan base except for a W or L. Once he stirred the pot a little, that changed for a year or two before the 49ers left.

Well, the games got competitive which always helps. Then, Call got his panties in a wad and cried about Charlotte making the tourny when Memphis didn't make it even though Charlotte beat Memphis and played in the much tougher CUSA division. I think there was one season where the final Memphis/Charlottte game winner won CUSA. Good times.

"Charlotte took our bid." was what I remember Cal's comment was at the time; which as you've said, wasn't the case at all. It simply got him in the "news."

Cal was always "me" first so you are probably right. That single comment by Cal is the primary reason why so many Charlotte fans detest Memphis today.

That and they whined til no end about the "dots" flyers which were given to our student section during a game against them.

Yeah, he played up the fact that Judy Rose was on the selection committee, although I believe that the selection rules required her to remain silent when discussing a co-member of the same conference. I do recall some choice words from a guy named "metro" over that comment, but he had choice words over a lot of things regarding Memphis/Charlotte.

lol @ metro. Dude has gone off the deep end and hates all things Niner now it seems. To bad since he is a former Niner athlete.

Anyway, Cal would have been more credible if he had actually beat the Niners which he never could do in Halton.

Don't remember that, but the dots seem like a good idea. You guys still do that?

Wow, in most places that would be a guarantee that there will be a mixed bag of colors in the stands.

The blue and white mostly worked. Black and especially silver, not so much.

How do you wear silver as a color and not come off looking like a Flock of Seagulls cover band?

Some guy that played for the other team.

Thanks.

Why would I give him a shirt? Doesn't he have enough of his own?

Are the beat Memphis shirts green?

A specific color out game has never occurred at a Memphis at UAB game. That would involve giving the entire house a shirt and UAB has not done that. They may have done it with the student section but not the entire arena.

Sorry to hurt tiger egos
