RE: Navy and Big East
If Navy decides to remain independent then I could see the nBE remaining at 10 instead of expanding anymore just to keep the payout per team as high as possible. Ten team conferences are not a bad thing. Nine would be even better because then its easy to have round robin FB schedules and double round robin in basketball. The only issue of staying at 10 is having 2 members that are high flight risks.

I really don't see Navy still wanting to come to the Big East once they lose UCONN & Cincy with the possibility of USF

It's not worth it. Funny thing is if everyone would have stayed put in C-USA the Big East would be dead and we would have all commanded an even bigger TV deal. Everyone thought there was a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow and all they found was a pissed off leprechaun shaking his crooked stick at them with a bag full of goat droppings.

Exactly. There was no way of knowing at the time, but everyone staying put and just waiting to add Cincy, UCONN, USF and Temple to C-USA would have been the better situation. C-USA 2.0 + those 4 for a nice 16 team conference that probably would have gotten a better pay day then what they're being offered.

But then Tier One Houston would have to suffer the ignominy of being in the same conference as Rice. That would simply be unacceptable.

Same thing happened with the WAC. The MWC was falling apart and WAC teams still jumped. The WAC had a foundation with ESPN for a bigger TV contract than the MWC.

The nBE schools will never come back to C-USA because of their own arrogance. If the nBE fails, they'll simply move to another mid-major conference and adjust themselves accordingly.

I could also see Houston making its own conference in the event the nBE fails.

You have to understand the kinds of people that are at the top of schools like Houston, UCF, and Tulane if you're looking for a reason as to why they left.

Plenty of people predicted this happening before ucf and Houston jumped ship. But the departers somehow thought Louisville and wvu were gonna stick around.

RE: Navy and Big East
So when the ACC starts losing schools they will probably turn in part to the nBE for replacements. So the next logical question is what CUSA schools then jump to the nBE.

If the answer is none (and it could be), that could be the end of them.

RE: Navy and Big East
The Defectors have been chasing the Big East rabbit for so long and so hard that it is difficult for them to admit to themselves that it is made of tin, now that they have caught up to it. It will be even more difficult for them to look at the ones who stayed and admit that, for whatever the reason, maybe those guys were better off not chasing that rabbit so hard. Those ten schools are married to each other now. For the rest of us, it's "sorry you couldn't stay...we hardly got to know you". Maybe one or two of them gets a better offer elsewhere, but for the most part, they are wedded to each other now.

Navy would be idiotic to pass it up, there won't be any room for them later on when the BE poaches the Big 12 & ACC and finishes expanding west.

Early bird gets the worm.

Moving to 14 in cusa was borderline retarded.

Where were mtsu, uncc, odu,fiu or fau going to go.

Everyone not in the power leagues will have the same seat at the table. Only difference is a few TV dollars and it won't be much. Greed is an ugly thing. When its all said and done it won't matter what league you are in.

I agree, but I don't think it would have mattered. Here's another metaphor for you: 'The fox is not the reason for the fox hunt'.

I agree, but once the first group said see ya, the die was cast.
