I know AL.com is just trying to drive their page hits, but I like seeing continuing conversation about the project.

Al.com is a joke of a media site. Instead of reporting actual news, they dredge up old stories that are push button issues for their readers. All they are doing is pushing page hits and it doesn't accomplish anything.

Hey! "ThePHOTO" made the front page, but not in a positive way. I would much rather the headlines said "UAB Paving the Way for its New On Campus Football Stadium".

And there's no actual news until they actually announce something. They'd have been better off without a statement from UAB, because the statement still leaves open just the same possibility of using it for the stadium as anything else.

While some here believe its a waste to publish the article, I believe there is a reaction to every action.

Now whether the reaction is negative or positive depends on alot of things, however at the very least the OCS is mentioned and the public who dont care one way or the other may pause and think, why.. and why not.

It's all good. There are things being released for a reason. Rebounder in on to something.

I think UAB is (necessarily) being coy, and the sNews is trying like hell to press the issue.

I'm for the alternate use of a multi-purpose facility for campus events such as into the streets staging, outdoor graduation, hosting concerts, international soccer games (because the artificial turf at Legion does not allow this) and football games. Win Win.

What are the soccer needs that are larger than a football field would provide? I have read comments that it would mean placing the stands too far from the field of play for football to try to have both in the same venue (especially if a running track is added). What inside info indicates UAB would try to have a natural grass turf in its OCS in the first place? If UAB doesn't go with "prescription turf" (real grass on a sand and concrete base for drainage), it risks another "Mud Bowl" as in the old films of Stabler's run at Legion Field years ago so it may choose a modern artificial turf to cut costs.

On our off weeks or weeks of road games... Why not host the big area high school games? Opportunity to recruit players and fans.

This. And this is why it will be whatever the latest version of FieldTurf is when it's built. Add those to concerts, graduations, and other uses and NOT installing FieldTurf makes no sense.
