Not true. At least not what I was told. They don't tailgate at Legion Field because they have to pay an exorbitant amount for the food and drinks. They have to buy fron a certain vendor that has a monopoly and charges accordingly.

Therefore, they only tailgate at LF for homecoming.

Another situation an OCS would alleviate.

Memphis booster paid for an on-campus stadium report a few years ago that said only good things will come from an on-campus stadium such as increased donations from alumni who might not otherwise ever venture onto campus.

Our president refused to even read the report.
Yeah, but you've got to consider your audience. Try a pop-up book next time. Or, send Jim Davis a few dollars and he'll let you use Garfield, Odie, et al. to explain things in cartoon form.

Voted yes. It's BS that UAB has to deal with the "Alabama politics". Legion Field is old, decrepit and in need of serious repairs. I've been there, it's not in a great part of town and it's BS that UAB is forced to play there. Give the Blazers a on campus or closer to campus stadium and I'm pretty sure the attendance would go up. Good Luck Blazer fans.

An on campus stadium for Memphis would be great, but the LB is certainly serviceable and has had some recent improvements. Frankly, I think it's a great place to watch a game. And I have never heard anyone in Memphis deem it too dangerous to tailgate, bring kids, whatever.

UAB's problem is that the UA board shortsightedly thinks that football in Alabama is a fixed pie, and that any football greatness for UAB reduces UAT's slice.

That's really a bad business model. The old truism is that one shoe store at an intersection probably does ok, but you put a shoe store at each corner, and all of them do better--it's shoe store mecca.

Success for football at UAB wouldn't make a dent in UAT's success. It would just increase the state's reputation as a football hotbed.

That sums it up pretty succinctly.

There are really only about 3-4 problem children on the UA BoT.

We'll get our stadium, but, to quote David Housel, when asked if UA-T would ever play in Auburn, "A couple of high-profile funerals will have to take place first."

And for basketball, it goes without saying that UAB and UAT should play every year.

UAT's rarely if ever been a basketball powerhouse. What exactly do they think they have to lose by playing UAB, which traditionally has been the superior program?

If nothing else, a hard fought state rivalry would boost UAT basketball. Makes no sense.

I used to want to play them, but I could see one of them trying to poison a concrete dragon statue.

All true what you said, and thank you. Only thing Legion Field is in need of is a good demolition...By virtue of its very existence in Birmingham today makes me wonder at times who is really running this city when it comes to enhancing the sports climate as it relates to football? It's not good enough to host a high school state championship game, but it's so "iconic" and "historic"...What a joke...

I went to jeff bower's final game at legion field; the pizza bowl (or whatever). we had to tip the cab driver an extra $5 to stop for cigarettes on the way to the game, and the quickee mart was enclosed -- encased, really -- in a cyclone fence. my wife began to freak out in the 3rd quarter because it was getting (something very distantly like) dark.

I don't think I got it until that afternoon, but I get it now.

FREE UAB!
