Part of the roof was blown off the student recreation center which had to be closed for about a month for repairs. The damage to that building alone cost well over $2.5 million. There was also water damage to our library which had to close the entire fifth floow, very expensive equipment was damaged in our center for optics, and a few other buildings also needed repairs.

Nearly nine years later, I'm happy to say that you really can't tell where the damage occurred on UCF's campus. Many trees were replanted and are now maturing and the buildings are all back to normal. Just like UCF did, USM will clean up, move on, and soon enough it will all be a distant memory. The good thing is that no one was killed.

Majority of those trees were 50 to 100 year old water oaks. The biggest of which my group tailgated under for years. What Katrina didn't get this storm did. Yeah we can and will replant, but that area will look no where near what it did in my lifetime. Life goes on.

Very, very cool.

What is the genesis behind it?

One thing the "Noob" schools do not have is a lot of tradition. Its hard when you've only been playing football for 10 years. Charlotte will have these issues too. I love to hear about things like this because I would like to see FAU do somethign similar.

We do have the annual bonfire before the 1st game of the season, but thats about it. We are in desperate need of "Game Day" traditions.

That's the thing though traditions arn't made they just happen. Yes you can start things but the best ones just emerge.

While I would normally agree, there is always the exception. Our TO THE TOP! cheer after first downs is something we had to work on. It hasn't been around as long as say...Eagle Walk...but more fans take part in it than any other thing we do.

I believe this is our Alumni House.

The Arts Center actually had a performance going on but they moved everyone to the safety of the basement.

RE: A truly sad pic from USM campus....
First time post from a long time reader...who is still sitting here in the dark. I live right next to the gravel faculty lot behind McDonald's. Here's a brief update:

1. Elam Arms was completely vacant and already scheduled for demo. The university wants to put a hotel there to be run by the college of business's hospitality and tourism management program. The tornado may have helped us along there.

2. The Jazz Station is nothing but a set of parallel walls held together by a girder...crews will finish the tornado's job soon. It was only seeing use as a school of music practice facility and was empty when it was hit.

3. A structural support wall in marsh hall has buckled...that building will likely be demo'd as it is now unsafe to enter. No word yet on the attached mannoni performing arts center, but the school of music and art department is not making plans to return from what I was told.

4. Southern hall was damaged on its se corner. The mass communications and journalism department was scheduled to move to newly renovated college hall in a week or so, but I don't know what math is going to do.

5. Mclemore hall is to be repaired. This structure housed student support services like the career center.

6. Ogletree is to be torn down from what I hear.

Freshy, from a couple of your points, sounds pretty providential that not only no fatalities reported, but some of the buildings that would have come down anyway got help from the tornado.

Hmmmmm.

It sucks, but I'm glad no students or faculty were hurt. I'd rather us have to tear down Elam Arms or Marsh Hall than a fellow Eagle perish.

You're killing me Smalls.

Feel free to share if you know.

Well if our local orientation leader doesn't know, why should I? 03-lmfao

I really don't know.. I went through orientation.. I don't recall that being one of the things discussed.. But that was 10 years ago. I can only recall a handful of things about orientation.

About 5 or 6 years ago the weekly painting of the little rock started. Its done early in the week for every home game and from time to time during the year for special events, gratuation and such.

For years it stood as a simple stone with a simple painting 30-14. That was done in 1970 during the celebration after beating the the No 4 excuse me miss webels and Awwwchie

I have seen several of USM milestones like 1970 win over Ole Miss, winning NIT, 82 victory over Alabama in Tuscaloosa, 5 C-USA football titles, etc. So your school will have these moments and my advice is to enjoy them and experience each one because they are memories for a lifetime.

Wish you guys would play Ole Miss and State every so often, in bball and football.

You'd beat the brains out of Ole Miss in bball this year, and I would just laugh my azz off.
