RE: Per ESPN: NBC Offers Big East TV Deal...
IF true, the hiring of Aresco has been a complete failure. Again, how the C7 gets $30M/year for bball only and Aresco can only get $24M/year for all sports??? Seton Hall, DePaul, Providence, St. Johns...........those 4 teams haven't been "relevant" in an NCAA tournament in years...I don't care what markets they are in. Houston, Dallas, Orlando, and Tampa are equally huge markets w/ irrelvant local CUSA teams. Villanova, Marquette, and Georgetown yes. You look at UCONN, Memphis, Temple, and UC......and the bball side isn't that different, so it's almost incomprehenisble that the gap is that large!!

IF it is true, UCONN/UC have to use the leverage of having an easy ability to deliver the "Big East" name to the C7 as a way of bailing on CUSA2.0. It sounds ridiculous, what monetary value/strategy is there in remaining w/ the septic tank that is CUSA? You get a 1/2 million more/year in tv revenue by going C7. You then try and a) schedule like BYU...and sell any marquee "home" games (ie, Purdue, BYU) to TV, and hope a bowl slot is open if you win 7 games......you'd keep all the $$$ and be in a better bball league.

I know many are "convinced" that Ono/Babcock have a secret plan and that we simply have to be patient. Anyone who thinks we can compete at a Tier1 level (Top 64 programs in the 2 major sports) is dreaming. The BCS money will be gone after next year too. We're staring at a future where we are permantly linked to a group of "Tier 2" schools...........w/ virtuatly zero funding to compete at a big time level.

I know many on here can't remember the "wasteland" that was UC athletics in the '80s.......but we may be staring at a return to that level of status/competition/resources very soon.

(1) This offer from NBC is for all-sports (not just basketball)

(2) There aren't other multimedia partners involved. This NBC offer is for everything TV-wise. ESPN can match it and get the package itself, but it's either one or the other. Fox isn't interested.

I hope Louisville didn't get the last chopper out of Saigon, so to speak. At only 2 million per school, I'd say the new Big East is a dead conference walking.

This is playing out just as badly as many feared it would.

3 years of this and you can forget the upward trajectory of the football program.

I'd say the low offer is a deliberate attempt to finally kill the Big East once and for all. ESPN has been itching to off the conference for years and turning down the big offer a couple years ago was the final straw.

Will people PLEASE stop saying the Mac?!?!?!? Gawd i'd rather be in the new big east and it's not even close

If you can more money playing in the MAC, UC should play in the MAC. Its all about the money at this point and never about the teams in the conference. If C7 plus MAC pays more than do that which I still can't understand why it would pay more but if its true that has to be an option that is explored. (Can't leave the MWC out of this too)

I'm all for whatever deal will garner the most money for UC. If that means being MAC for football and C7 for basketball we do it in a heartbeat. Sure New Orleans and Philly are cool towns, but recruits don't care to watch our teams play Tulane in front of 5,000 in the Big Easy.

I am more concerned about playing SMU, Houston and Tulane in basketball in front of crowds that are 1k and less...

At this point, couldn't the Big XII just negotiate a hell of a deal in return for rescuing Cincinnati and others that have nowhere else to go? For instance, giving newcomers a much smaller share of the revenue over a lengthy period of time. It's not like UC, UConn, USF and other programs in the same predicament have a choice, right?

Notice that UofL, Cuse, Pitt, and RU are already on the chopper...we are right there ready to get on next with UCONN...all those other saps behind us are USF, ECU, Memphis, Temple, on down the ladder.

Bounce the teams in the league wouldn't be awful if UConn, Temple, and Memphis are still around; however, if the money is that you need to save at least on of your programs.

I am probably in the minority in thinking that the MAC wouldn't kill this program as long as UConn and Temple came along with Cincinnati.

A conference schedule with Ohio, Miami, UConn, Buffalo, Temple, UMass, Ball State, Toledo, and Akron isn't so bad if you mix in Ohio State, Louisville, Purdue, BYU, and company outside of league. Remember the GO5 rep makes a BCS bowl. The Big East remnants would be pretty weak because I bet Houston and SMU are gone. C-USA still stinks while the MWC wins the award for the 6th best league. The good news is that the bid doesn't to go to the best league champion it will go to the best champion period. Pulling a Boise State by winning the MAC every season plus one big non-conference game could equal BCS bowl every season. You do this while protecting our long standing major basketball program.

All this depends on the Big East payout but this school can't take minor conference money to play in a mid-major conference. You at least have to play in a major basketball league and hope that football continues to win.

I think we have to seriously consider that we are the ugly girl nobody wants. It really sucks, but its looking more and more like reality.

A friend of mine (who lives in Delhi) was flying choppers that day and was landing on that roof (I don't know who is flying that chopper in the picture). On his last sortie, he landed on the carrier, let off his passengers, got out of the chopper and the navy pushed the chopper overboard. Not just his but all choppers that landed that day.

They could, but why lower their standards? FSU is at a big disadvantage trying to compete for a national title in the ACC and the B12 is a perfect landing spot for them once the next round of movement starts. I can't see the B12 settling for smaller programs like UC, UConn, or USF.

It is going to be a worse version of old C-USA. I am mildly interested in games against Temple and Memphis, UConn speaks for itself. The rest? I couldn't care less. If UC couldn't get a good schedule OOC with BE money, they what are they going to get with this garbage NBE money? I will still watch/go to most basketball games but the drop is going to be very significant. Temple and Memphis are going to be on the level of the game we have against Villanova on Tuesday...which may have been cool a decade ago, but now just plain sucks.

I've seen videos of those choppers being shoved up the carrier and always wondered why they were dumping those things overboard?

Some were stored. The rest they had no room for. They chucked them to make room for additional incoming flights.

If true, not good.

With all the rumors still out there about impending realignment, I would assume a network would only give a worse case scenario bid (from the network point of view).

We'll see if anyone can get comments from the BE side. Last I read Aresco was quoted as saying the contract would be divided among more than one carrier.
