"It's all gone quiet over" . . . here?
Has anyone else noticed that our student section isn't doing either their "It's all gone quiet over there" song or their "winning team, losing team" chant this year? They're doing the age-old unsportsmanlike key rattling and "Hey hey goodbye" song . . . both of which I have problems with (unsportsmanlike [as I mentioned] and excessively old & totally uncreative). That is very disappointing to me, considering the creative reputation of Belmont students. "It's all gone quiet over there" and "winning team, losing team" were very original, I thought (seeing that I've NEVER heard either at any other school). Shaking keys and "Hey hey goodbye" is just old, over-done, annoying, embarrassing, and show a total lack of class.

Shaking keys has been there since I was a Freshman in 2003. I don't think those chants are that unsportsman like. I was at the Homecoming game and while the student section was packed it was quiet.

Colleges and universities have been shaking keys since at least the 1960's and have been singing that "Hey Hey" song since the 1970's. It's nothing new. It's nothing creative. It's nothing school-specific. It's nothing to rally around. It's nothing of which to be proud. The "It's all gone quiet," "winning team/losing team," and even "I'm Belmont 'Till I Die" are things that ARE uniquely Belmont. Though they may also fall on the side of unsportsmanlike, it's creative and NOT worn out. As I originally posted, where are they this year? I haven't heard them. I've only heard the boring "start the bus," "hey hey," and key stuff. Boring. BORING! Stupid. Uncreative. Worn out. Boring.

I had no idea you guys did the winning team/losing team thing. I've seen it done at Utah State, and there's a great YouTube clip on it as well that looks and sounds impressive. Not familiar with the It's all gone quiet thing.
We have the same issues at Wichita State with trying to get the students to be more creative. I believe we finally stopped doing the keys a few years back

Good for you guys!!! The key-shaking thing is such a junior high-1970's mentality.

My HS used to do the key thing. Never liked it at WSU.
Is there any video on the It's all gone quiet thing? You guys have me intrigued.
