On the other hand, Ohio was #9 seed in 2010 before storming through MAC tourney and demolishing Georgetown.

I think MAC has made appropriate adjustments giving top 2 teams overall (not by conference) free passes to Semi's.

I love that the MAC rewards good teams in the regular season. Avoid that flukey upset early in the tourney. If you have a good regular season you will play a good team in the tourney that will not be as damaging to an at large bid.

I fully agree the top teams should be rewarded with the semifinal bye. If you can finish in top two in this league you earned it. It rewards team that are ready to play January 1 not February 1 or March 1st. That said the bye can hurt a team that hasn't played in six days and comes out cold in an NBA arena they aren't adjusted to, while a team playing there third game in the Q has already adjusted. DJ Cooper having a couple nites to tune up his stroke worked well for Ohio. It could happen this year if a guy like Evans for Kent
