5 teams from a very very weak SEC included

If 5 teams from the SEC get in, you will have direct evidence of how biased the selection committee is. I don't think it will happen. If they end up with 4 it is a stretch. 5 would be flat-out corrupt.

Meh, the SEC probably has four in right now. Not a huge stretch to think they could sneak a fifth in if someone manages to knock off Florida twice.

Florida: Lock
Missouri: Lock
Ole Miss: 90% chance they are in
Kentucky: Starting to play better and have three chances to get a good win (@ UF, home vs. UF/Mizzou). Pretty sure they will get in.

If Alabama wins the SEC tournament, they'll get in. Can't see how else they could sneak in. Everyone is calling Ole Miss a lock, but I'm not buying yet. They've looked vulnerable or bad in 6 straight games. I don't think 5 more losses for the Rebels is out of the question. If they lose 4 or more, they're a bubble team at best.

As bad as the SEC is, maybe this is more indicative of how even the field is this year. Still, to think a conference that's having the worst year in a decade plus could get 5 teams in is frustrating.

Ole Miss isn't a lock right now, I agree. I think the only true lock is Florida. Mizzou isn't a lock, IMO, ever since they dropped a game to LSU.

People laugh at Bama, but they're 6-2 in league play. and the rest of their conference schedule is a cake walk. The only top hundred teams they have left are Ole Miss at Oxford and Florida at Gainsville. They could easily be 23-9 (14-4) winning 10 of their last 12 going into the SEC tourney. That would get them in bubble conversations.

I would not give Ole Miss quite that high of a chance to get in. Their best win comes against a Missouri team that looks less and less impressive as the weeks go by. Ole Miss is currently 44 in the RPI. Four more losses drops them to a 57 RPI. That basically means they cannot lose anymore than 3 more SEC games if they are not going to win the SEC tournament. Not even remotely close to a lock.

Honestly, are you surprised? The SEC is one of ESPN's lovers.

Hopefully the people who REALLY decide who goes to the tournament will see the joke that SEC basketball is this year.

Time will tell.

I looked at their schedule before making my post and noted they have home games vs. MSU, UGA, Auburn, Bama and A&M...all of which they should win. They have road games @ MSU, USCe, Mizzou, A&M and LSU.

I would say that they can pluck USCe and MSU...that is 7-3 in the final 10 games, or 24-7 (13-5 in SEC). Likely good enough to get in unless they lose 1st game of conference tourney.

A UTK fan last week said they were right on the bubble, prior to their loss to the Hogs:

"I think we can go 8-3 or 7-4 down the stretch and that puts us at 19-11 or 18-12, pretty much where we were last year, right on the bubble going into the SEC tourney where anything can and will happen. RPI is 76. That Wichita State win may come back to be the difference maker. What do yall think?"

Yep. You can be in the top 50 of the RPI and be considered a lock in a power conference. In CUSA you have to be top 30 to feel like you are a lock or close to a lock. That's why when people say it will be harder to make the dance in the Big East, I tell them they don't know what the hell they are talking about.

Ah, well....I don't even bother to look at any brackets until the real one comes out because they are all wild guesses(in most cases) anyway. I stand by my ESPN/SEC statement however.
