If you look at our ENTIRE conference's "body of work", it's doubtful it's much better than any SINGLE top 25 team.
Southern Miss: Best win RPI 103 Tulsa; 0-4 against top 100 RPI
Memphis: Best win RPI 84 Tennessee; 0-3 against top 75 RPI; 4-0 against 75-100 RPI
Our best CONFERENCE win that I could find was Tulane beating RPI 60 Alabama.
So is it media bias or does our conference NOT deserve any respect? You have to actually play (terrible scheduling) and win against good teams to get respect. I think Memphis has a weak schedule this year, but it's still superior to the rest of the league. We all thought Xavier would be a chance to get a pretty decent win (and I still think it will be a great game), but they haven't had a terrific season.
I can't wait until next year! It sucks that our resume revolves around a very early season tournament and one game against Louisville. Teams in good conferences have a chance for resume building wins throughout the conference season. If we lose one in C-USA we have to be worried about even making the tournament....
UTEP beat Oregon. RPI of 29
Thanks, I missed that one, but you get the point. If people want C-USA to be relevant, they need to schedule and win against good teams.
It's the last year of C-USA, so people should just chill out. The conference doesn't deserve respect because they haven't earned it. Our resume isn't great, but look at USM. No top 100 wins? Are you kidding me? They are 0-4 against top 100 teams. Anyone think they deserve any respect?
I think we are playing pretty good basketball. We had chances against Minnesota and a nice lead against Louisville. I believe we are a sweet 16 caliber school now...

Yeah, and they made Pastner look foolish.
Pastner was going on and on about how good C-USA teams are, how this era of basketball is different than the 80s and 90s. He said there's parity and everyone can beat you. He said C-USA teams are good, the fans just don't know it.
So Eli politely asked why he was 2-20-something against Top 50 opponents. To which Pastner had no answer.
I guess Eli didn't bring up the UT-Memphis game this year and its outcome
Eli Savoy is a huge UT homer and kinda of a **** in general on air
It says more about the class of our Coach to go on their show and let Eli pick and choose facts

Absolutely I get the point. We blew a great opportunity to beat UNLV and we were absolutely horrific at the Old Spice Classic. Like really, really bad. Nobody to blame but ourselves....

Unfortunately we painted ourselves into this corner by under performing early. We are going to have to come out and dominate come the NCAA tourney no matter who we draw.
We may not be in the best conference, but we deserve better coverage. I would suggest boycotting their sponsors when these guys spew their "cute" little diatribes.

From Eamonn Brennan (long time anti-C-USA and anti-Memphis hack) at ESPN writing about the "10 Places To Be This Week" in college basketball:
Hattiesburg, Miss. (Memphis at Southern Miss): Don't look now, but Southern Miss -- which Larry Eustachy took to the tournament last season -- is arguably just as good this season and 7-0 in C-USA play to date. In fact, it's not clear whether obvious league favorite Memphis is in fact better than the Golden Eagles; Southern Miss ranks No. 34 in KenPom.com's adjusted efficiency rankings, while Memphis is No. 54. (Memphis is ranked higher in the BPI.) Big, big game -- or at least as big as C-USA games can be.
Never would that dig be directed at any "big 6" conference game or a conference game among top teams from the MWC, the MVC, the A-10, the WCC or even some conference like the Horizon or the Colonial. He and the rest of his sports media cabal buddies know it is the cute thing to do to rip on C-USA hoops and has been since 2005-06 and they just keep on doing it. It's no different as the same hacks that write story after story ripping on the Big East hoping that it collapses as soon as possible. They are sheep trapped in their own echo chamber all reading each other's tweets and columns and listening to each other on their radio shows. And they think they are the smartest and the most original because they continue to spout the same crap over and over and over.
Probably because C-USA is shell of itself, and high profile C-USA games between UC/UofL/Marquette/Memphis/UNCC etc actually registered nationally....

It's a CUSA game. It's not a big game except for fans in Hattiesburg and Memphis. Even when we were running through the conference in Cal's days we rarely played games that made a difference on the national scale unless we lost. What do you expect, College Gameday to cover it?
