The reality of recruiting is that you don't know for at least a year if you got the "right guy" or if you missed out on a "superstar". Chances are good that most of the ones we lost will only be vaguely remembered in a couple of years when someone asks why a name sounds familiar. Besides, when our program finally breaks out, they may wish they had stayed for our show, maybe even transferring in later -- perhaps from WKU like a certain BB player.

The "star ranking" of a high school player is based on how soon he is expected to contribute to a school's program. A 5* player is usually expected to play important minutes from his first step on campus. The fewer stars players are expected to be slower to that same level of contribution. If a player remains in a good collegiate program for 4 or 5 years, the difference at the end point should be much less than at the beginning. He has grown physically, matured intellectually and developed football skills from superior coaching. A 2* or 3* player may not play regularly until their junior year, but by that time, he is likely to be only slightly less capable than the 5* or 4* of two years earlier. Since the NFL doesn't generally want to draft any player until the end of their junior year, the difference at that end point is not likely to be as great as it was 2 years before. What team is Ryan Leaf playing for today?

Guess that qualifies Legion Field to host a Superbowl, right?
