Been posted a couple of times. 6007 as of right now. Suffered from a lot of home games over the break and middle of the week rather than weekend home games.
think he was being sarcastic.

He definitely was; I was just rubbing it in.

Nice save.........

The oddity should be that ECU is closing in on 2nd place in CUSA game attendance.

ECU is one of the CUSA teams that have already hosted Memphis (usually is the top visiting draw for most CUSA teams).

ECU drew a crowd of 6,246 for their home game vs Memphis.

ECU drew 6,121 for UTEP; so the Memphis game was only a slight increase.

So far USM has had a grand total of 8 home games this season against:

WKU
Denver
Grambling
William Carey
Dillard
Houston
UAB
Marshall

Our attendance figures will go up from here.

I was doing some rough math and with USM only playing 3 home games so far and when play Memphis on Feb 9 we should have right at 8,000 which will put our avg CUSA game attendance around 5,541.

I've used CUSA Official Conf stats for YEARS....as noted above, they got UTEP wrong (corrected their conf game average).

I think this is the first time in the years of using CUSA Official Stats that they got announced attendance figures wrong.

Give them 10 lashes if you so please.

The crowd USM had for UAB was the largest I have ever seen in Reed Green by far. I will also give credit to the USM fans that traveled to Bartow Saturday. It was the largest traveling crowd I have ever seen USM have. It beat some of the crowds I saw in Reed Green a few years ago. Kudos to you guys. Glad you have discovered you have a basketball team. Keep it up!

We're inching up a little at every game. I'm hoping for a full house against Memphis. The other games will average in the high nines. Still not bad but not good in comparison to Memphis.

We're just in an unusual situation where a city's population is very hoops oriented and knowledgeable. Tie that to a university program that's had a relatively successful history and is currently successful and you'll have big crowds. There just aren't many opportunities for non-blue blooded programs to cultivate that combination. We've been fortunate.

UTEP has a real and visible potential to average 10K+/40K in the two revenue sports. There aren't that many programs around that aren't in the big leagues that you can easily see that happening. Based on history and arena/stadium sizes, there may not be but 2 or 3 current CUSA members that have that potential. UTEP has a loyal and very large fan base as recent basketball success and past football crowds have demonstrated.

Creighton, Gonzaga, and Butler are about the only others that come to mind.

10 or 15 years ago, Louisville, and Cincy, would have been included in that group as well, but they moved on.

UTEP's home attendance for the season is 8224. We've only had 2 games below 7400, Arkansas Pine Bluff (7100) and Houston Baptist (6600). We had 7500 for Nebraska, the rest have been 8k and 9k

I doubt UTEP would ever average under 6,000. Billy gillespies first year where I think we only won 6 games and our worst season in a very long time, I think we still drew over 6,000 fans a game.

There was one year, can't remember the year but I think it was like 7 or 8 years ago where UTEP averaged just under 47,000 fans in football, and over 10,000 in basketball in same year. Winning solves attendance problems.

The universal cure for almost all athletic programs. It helped our football attendance and our basketball attendance has spiked up tremendously in the last few weeks.

I find the attendance figures interesting, but I think using them for bragging points is a bit overstated. High attendance is largely a result of sustained success over decades, but the vast majority of program's attendance will fall after a season or two of bad records.

Exactly, '83. Some use attendance numbers to beat those with lower numbers over the head with, but every program, fan base, etc is different. We're obviously in a fortunate situation in basketball and have some work to do in getting football numbers up, but that doesn't make us a better or worse fan base in either revenue sport. Attendance smack is usually more comical than meaningful.

Ticket sales, donations, etc as they relate to direct revenue do become important, but that's rarely discussed. The discussion is usually around raw numbers.
