In a recent HS event he was named the most versatile player. bearcat18 on BearcatTalk posted this from ESPN:
Quote:K.J. is one of the more athletic guards in the country. He is explosive and can play either guard spot. Johnson should be impactful at the next level with his ability to score from all three levels on the court.
Feel bad that JDIII got hurt, but it's really nice having three years of eligibility left. I think he's the best of our guards at penetrating and finding the open man, as well as kicking it ahead on the break. I like the upside of these guys in the backcourt.
Looks like he has great court vision and ball handling skills not to mention a smooth looking shot.

SK is a below average ball handler at best.
I have been very impressed with JDIII ball handling and vision from what I've seen from him. I don't see why Cronin is convinced that he's a 2 and not a 1, not that it makes a huge difference with our offense.
Sean Kilpatrick needs to work very hard this off season in becoming a more efficient scorer, right now he is just a pretty good shooter that gets to take a lot of shots. In Big East play he is shooting 34% from three, which really isn't that bad...but it has come on 79 attempts (an average of nearly 9 per game).

Sounds identical to what SK was at the beginning of his career here. Since then he has stepped up his D. Still not particularly fast and his ball handling is nowhere near NBA ready. I don't see why JD can't make similar strides in his game.
I don't really see SK being drafted right now. NBA draft is based on potential, and SK is not freakishly athletic, he is what he is physically. He needs to improve ball handling and become a more versatile scorer to get a 1st round draft grade.
SK will never be a first round draft choice. Too small and not athletic enough to be a SG and doesn't have the skills to be a PG. May make it as a shooter role player given his work ethic.

Unfortunately I think that is his thought process also and I think it has manifested itself this year on the court. It seems like he is trying desperately to show himself as a JJ Reddick type player. He's a good shooter, but he's no Ray Allen. I think SK will make money playing basketball but probably not in the NBA, still a hell of a way to pay the bills.
I don't think his game is a great fit for the NBA and probably will go undrafted after his senior year. However, I would not be shocked to see him make an NBA roster at some point. There is just something about the way that kid is wired that is different from most players.

This, Sean Kilpatrick's unrelenting dedication is what separates himself from the rest of the pack. I have no doubts he will have an extremely successful career playing basketball, he is already going to go down as one of the Bearcat greats.
If it were in doubt, it shouldn't be now. S K would be stupid not to return with the addition of Lawrence. If Lawrence plays as much as expected, it will take a tremendous amount of pressure off Kilpatrick. The more scoring options the merrier.
Biggest question next season is who plays PG?
I think Jackson, Gaines, and Nyarsuk can handle the 5 position adequately.
Lawrence probably plays the 4 and gives us inside scoring along with a variety of other things he can do.
SK, Rubles, Thomas, JDIII, Sanders, the newcomers.........makes for an interesting combination at the 2 and 3.
By the end of next season, this team might be better than this year's team, simply because of the addition of a kid like Lawrence. Look what it did when Dermarr joined the cast of K-Mart, Mickael, Logan, Satterfield. Hard to guard a guy like that.
