RE: Unemployment rises
Truth be told, we actually WANT the unemployment to rise for a short period of time before it starts to decrease. The reason why is that it means that people who dropped out of the labor market are jumping back into it to look for work again. The only reason for people to want to jump back into the labor market is that people are seeing positive news that firms are looking to hire more people. The unemployment rate can easily fall when people stop looking for work. Again, for the labor participation rate to improve, unemployment will have to rise for a short period of time before it begins to fall again.

RE: Unemployment rises
Don't ever expect to see Clinton Era employment levels again. This is the beginning of the end.
"Free Trade" has resulted in millions of jobs being shipped overseas to low wage countries. Many other countries have much more attractive tax rates that we can't match and still have our massive social and defense spending. Welfare, Food Stamps, and extended unemployment benefits make it easy to sit around and do nothing. American society as a whole is becoming fatter, lazier, less educated, and we have lost the work ethic that used to be a central part of our culture.

Doomsday enough?

RE: Unemployment rises
Call me the incurable optimist, but I think we can still reverse it.

But nothing that Obama, or democrats, or republicans are talking about will do it.
