Tourney format?
Has anyone heard how the conference tourney will be formatted this year since UCF will not be taking part? Will they have 5 byes and 11 teams? Will only 10 teams qualify with the bottom 4 playing off for two spots? Anyone know?

RE: Tourney format?
People might think this is stupid, but In my opinion the CUSA tourney should be set up as it normally would and whomever would of been set to play UCF should get the "win" by forfeit or whatever term would be correct. I dont see why it should all change just because UCF are cheaters.

The only thing I have seen shows the 5 seed also getting a bye. So you'd have

1 vs 8/9
2 vs 7/10
3 vs 6/11
4 vs 5

That makes the most sense to me.

I don't think giving a team a free win based off of randomly playing UCF would be fair.

I can understand that too. I just dont want them to completely change the format from what everyone is used to due to a single team as that might be a punishment to everyone but if everyone is ok with it then great. Of course CUSA offices probably dont care if everyone likes it they ill tell us and we will submit.

Actually i like that idea. Of course it's too simple a soluion to work but a good idea none the less.

I agree, just give the 5 seed a bye as well, less games the first day but the tourney will still go smoothly.

How can you reward the 5 seed? Rework it and give to the 2nd seed.

What do you rework to give the 2 seed? According to that format, everything plays out the same way except the 5 seed gets one less game.(and it's in place of the 5 v 12 game, which the 5 should win most years anyway)

CUSA needs to bill UCF for the lost basketball game. Since they want Memphis to pay $100,000k for PBS to air some games, I think UCF should have to pay the conference $100,000 for the rights lost and whatever ticket revenue could have been generated.

The only change would be to give the fifth seed a bye as if they beat UCF.

PBS is a public network. They shouldn't be buying basketball games with tax dollars anyway.

Seeds 1-5 each get a bye. YOu just eliminate 5/12 and give 5 a bye.

Thanks for not editing my post. Oh wait, you aren't a mod anymore. That's too bad.

Now I get it. I incorrectly thought 1 and 5 were the only seeds getting byes.

This seesm to be everything I've read. Opening day will have only 3 games instead of 4. I assume that it will be 1 3 game session. In fact, tickets for the touirnament are less expensive this year because of that. Then their will be 2 2 game sessions on Thursday followed by the semi's Fri afternoon and final on Sat morning.

This is the internet...It's not hard to go directly to the source:

http://www.conferenceusa.com/championshi...ip-13.html

The schedule only shows 3 games on Wednesday. Confirming that the top 5 finishers will get byes into the quarterfinals.
