Gilbert Hall details
I got word back from Housing and they sent me this link which I did not see before which gives some details.

http://www.niu.edu/housing/housing/campu...ndex.shtml

Upperclassmen environment for Juniors and Seniors
Double and Double-as-a-Single rooms
Beds at Jr. loft height or can be fully lofted
Elevators
Wireless internet in all rooms/lounges
In-hall fitness facility
All-you-care-to-eat dining center
"Proudly Serving" Starbucks Café

Each room will have artificial hardwood laminate surface
Each floor has a quiet lounge and an open lounge near the elevators.

Floor Plan
http://www.niu.edu/housing/housing/campu...orplan.pdf

If the room numbers are the units open for the students then the maximum capacity (double occupancy) would be 284. However I would expect the actual occupancy to be less than 184 because of all the people wanting single rooms. It will be interesting to see how this fills up the first two years.

Wow, I was part of the last group to live in Gilbert Hall when I was going to school in the mid 90s. Great to see it come back, needless to say it did not have these luxuries! It was kind of funny, when they were closing Gilbert Hall, people in my dorm organized a march to the President's office to protest.

Man up! It's colder than Antarctica in DeKalb, but we all did it. I walked from the dorms to the Visual Arts Building, and most of the time my zipper was down. (Not by choice then; my brain was just too frozen.) When I lived at UP, I crossed that wind field behind VCB several times a day. One time, it was so freakin' windy that I tried to fall forward but the wind just kept lifting me up - literally - and I am not tiny by any stretch of the imagination (or anything else). Walking to classes at NIU in the winter builds character. It built my character. Enjoy and revel in it. You will be thankful later!

Mine was in booth #2 at the Grotto. Didn't do much sleeping, however. The only bad thing was the continuous noise of the air pump after my girl sprung a leak. Instant latex patches were not available at the Grotto at that time.

I learned more about female anatomy in Gilbert Hall than any other class I took at NIU.

Universities today do more to attract students than ever in the past. They cater to and pamper students to the extreme. Luxurious dorms, athletics facilities, recreation facilities, etc. galore. Next, they will be providing sex partners and alcohol as soon as you get to campus.

We never had anything close to this. It has now become more of a living experience first and educational experience second.
