I assure you I won't be saying the stadium is holding us back if we have one 20 years from now.

Because when some of us were in school in the 1980's, the Trustees' and Legislators' crushing of dorm projects was the moral equivalent of this decade's stadium shenanigans. They forbade dorm projects to put us in our place (and because every Southside slum lord howled bitterly about lost revenue).

There was a three year waiting list for student housing when I was at UAB and the bot would not allow us to build any more

I think we just need to build it ourselves. Who is with me? I can donate some weekends.

When I first decided to go to UAB in 2003, Rast Hall was one of the main factors in my decision. I definitely saw some dorms that were much worse than what UAB had to offer, and that was before the new dorm was built. Also, aren't they building a new dorm now?

Not sure anymore, but under XCNC scholarship football players have to live in Rast Hall until their 4th year. Rast hall isn't terrible, but its far from nice. Main problem is its just old. You would think the athletes would have the best available place to live on campus.

Here's why I'm not totally upset over the local defections: Mullens and McCall (and maybe Robinson) felt they could play earlier at those schools. Aren't we the ones that usually promise early playing time to recruits? The fact that these guys looked at our roster and thought, "I can't play in front of those guys, so I'll go to School X instead," says a lot about the guys on our roster. Obviously, we're making strides in talent level.

Now, the facilities issue is one that we all know we're facing and have been facing for a long time. That fight continues as usual.

Let's not forget we do have a new weight room, new training rooms (state of the srt equipment) and a new academic center for athletes. The next logical step is a new football building.

Every football program in the country are losing and gaining players they did and didn't spend a lot of time recruiting.

I think some folks relish in falling skies and doomsday scenarios.

It's like bringing up Jim Crow laws as a reason not to move to Alabama today.

Really? I wouldn't know where to begin or end.

That is true. We have to trust the staff to bring in players they feel good about signing. Since the stats cited in other threads indicate that only a relative few wind up making a difference anyways, we will know in a couple of years which players we got or lost.

As I pointed out earlier, when a player defects or transfers from a BCS program, the public asks what's wrong with the player? When the same thing happens to a nonBCS program, the public wants to know what's wrong with the school?

& when a coach stresses loyalty to players, then bolts to another school, then who gets the 3rd degree? ;-)I'm not against anyone being kissed on the lips by ambition, but, that word "loyalty" should be stricken from the mouths of college football coaches, for the most part, anyways.

There's no doubt in anyone's mind UAB needs an OCS. Not even in those that are keeping us from having one.

Bless their sniveling, cowardly, backward, thin-skinned, racist, animal-abusing, ambulance-chasing, politician-buying, knuckle-dragging hearts.

You left out squirrel-buggering.

I feel sorry for the squirrels.
