We are in the same boat as Maryland, UK and UNC
All close to bubble teams right now. I still say Cal's ridiculous run has made many Tigers fan unrealistic in their expectations.
Pastner should be on a short leash, but...winning IS hard.

Just gotta keep winning, even if it is ugly or against teams with bad RPIs.

Not trying to offend you, but why do Cal's years have to be an anomaly and not the norm? Why can't we compete for national titles every year?
Cal showed us how to get there. Why not keep that level?

It's an anomaly because this school has only had three final four appearances (only one according to the NCAA) and five 30-win seasons (three according to the NCAA) in 95 seasons of basketball. To expect 30-win seasons every season at any school is crazy.

Seems to be comforting for some fans to equate the misery of other teams to our situation.
I think its called name dropping.
Doesn't do anything for me. I want our teams to do well on their own hook, without having to be compared to the perennial top teams when they stump their toes.

Mediocrity is now considered to be conference regular season and tournament titles, 26 wins and a NCAA tournament appearance? Before 2005, I would have taken that in a heartbeat.

Winning 14 of 15 is pretty good. Could be much worse.

I think both of us are talking about the present. The trends I'm seeing right now indicate troubles ahead. I hope not.

Yep. We could be playing a tougher schedule deserving of the talent we have and prestige we think we have.
Or, we could pluck all the low hanging fruit [while playing at home] and call it a great accomplishment.
There is a difference

Well I can say one thing if Cal was still here we would have probably won it all the year after he left because Xavier Henry would have stayed here, and he won it last year of course..My point being that we would have almost the same players he has had since he went to KY here..

That's fine and all. But why do we need to strive for results of the past? Why not make NCAA titles the goal and then actually put the resources behind it to make it achieveable every year?
Are we fine with being a borderline NCAA team every year and making an sweet 16 run every now and then?
God...I hope not.

Look at Roy Williams @ Kansas
3 straight 2nd round losses. Bill Self 2 straight 1st round losses. Then a tourney run by both.

I hope we strive for a little better than that, although going by history, that is who we are. Hopefully, we are a little better than that now (thanks in large part to Calipari) and we are now a regular participant in the NCAA tournament and occasionally we win some games once we get there. I don't expect much more than that. I have been a fan for too long to expect 30-win seasons and Elite Eights every year. That doesn't even occur every year at UNC, Duke or Kentucky.

Maryland, North Carolina and UK all have chances to get top 25 wins. Besides it's much easier to get to the tourney from one of the big 6 conferences.

That's fine too. But every year they go into the season thinking they can win a national title. On here, it seems making it out of the first round is a good year.
Why not aim higher is the question? That's all.

Yup.
If Steph Curry's buzzer beater doesnt rim out in the Elite 8, Bill Self probably gets fired in 08. KU fans were not happy with him until he went to the 08 final four.

I've never met a Memphis fan that thinks a first round exit in the NCAA tournament is considered "a good year." Most consider making the Sweet 16 as constituting a "good year."
