I hate when NIU plays EMU in basketball. It's always an awful affair, where each team struggles to break 40 points. It sets basketball back to when the ball was still square. Things really got better when the ball eroded into a rounder shape. Especially since the hoop was always round.
EMU is another "meh" MAC team, though of course NIU is not up to the "meh" level yet, but can beat the occasional "meh" team. EMU did beat a meh Purdue team 48-44. Ugh. Enough meh.
Da'Shonte Riley is 7 feet tall, so he can block shots and rebound. He cannot shoot much, thankfully. Hopefully NIU runs into him enough to get him in foul trouble, or just fouls him because he's just awful at free throwing. If you have to foul, foul the tall guy. He transferred from Syracuse, if that means anything to ye. EMU also has an Arkansas and a Wyoming transfer. Sounds like they're getting itchy up there.
Like NIU, EMU plays a lot of guys and none of them stand out too much.
EMU is winless on the road, but good at home, so this doesn't set up well unless they get confused about which Convo they are in (Yes, I've used that joke before. PLEASE stop naming buildings "Convocation Center." Least inspiring name ever.).
I suppose this is a revenge game for EMU, after NIU "stunned" them for the longest MAC tournament run for NIU in probably ever.
Two straight wins on the road is a tall order for NIU, hopefully they find a way. NIU has won 3 out of their last four MAC road games, however...after a ten game losing streak in MAC road contests. There is hope. Or not. I dunno.
The formula remains the same; rebound, defend, and pray a few shots fall in. Did you know, NIU has scored at least 65 points in their wins? The Huskies have won just once under Mark Montgomery when scoring less than 60 points. SCORE, dammit.
The MAC is hosting this game (
Click on the green words by the NIU-EMU game, champ), so watch if you wonder what it would be like to see cavemen play basketball.
