Currently there are 27 teams with better efficiencies, but typically that number is in the top 5-15.
And clearly we are still capable of improving, but we are on the right track.
As for zone, we use it pretty regularly but situationally.
I think a pretty accurate assessment would be that Pastner prefers m2m but is much more willing to use different zones in particular circumstances than his predecessor.
Good assessment.

Memphis, for the most part, has played good zone but as much as Shaq and Black get in foul trouble, pulling a zone out once in a while isn't a bad thing.
Memphis had to play zone against Looserville, hell during the game I got a call and after I answered the phone, one of the officials yelled foul.

Zone Defense?
Seems like we give up too many open 3's when we play zone

RE: Zone Defense?
Going zone against a given team is the coach’s call. The thing is a coach must have his team prepared in advance to play the defense of his choice depending on the on court situations.

RE: Zone Defense?
14:00 minute mark against Marshall. Up 47-42...we go into a 2-3 match-up zone. They scored on 2 of 3 possesions. 1 was a three-pointer. We fouled once. They got 1 offensive rebound. 49-47 ...back into press/man. 56-49 at 10:00 mark.
**EDIT**: Zone again at 8:00. Herd missed WIDE open 3, offensive rebound, wide open jumper. Marshall down 4 , at 7:00 mark.
So, yeah...maybe zone isn't the best idea.
