Looking Forward: 2013-14 Basketball Schedule
From Ed Miller on twitter:
"#odu hoops schedule for next season will include 1 conf game against 14 CUSA schools, and home/home w/marshall, per Wood Selig."
So Marshall is our designated rival.
Additionally we should have non-conference games against:
@ VCU
College of Charleston
Missouri State (2011 brackbusters return)
Murray State
Cancun Challenge (2 home games, 2 games in Cancun)
@VMI? (may have been a 2 for 1)

RE: Looking Forward: 2013-14 Basketball Schedule
I saw somewhere yesterday where George Mason was working to ink a deal with us. That would make sense for both schools obviously.
On a side note, I hate the way CUSA is setting up the schedule. To develop rivalries, they should be doing home/home series with everyone in your pod, even if it means not playing everyone in the conference. Had some great home/home rivalries with UAB and UNCC in the past. Would love to see that rekindled (and also add WKU).

Based solely on that tweet. I don't think there will be divisions for basketball, although losing 2 more teams for 2014 will probably change that. I'd guess we would see Charlotte and UAB home and homes next (Location and previous history, respectively)

I like the CUSA schedule. Gives us only 16 conference games, and allows us to have much more flexibility in OCC scheduling.
Where as in the CAA, our RPI was always dragged down playing some of the basement dwellers twice in a season with the 18 game schedule.

Hope we are able to work out the scheduling issues and keep GMU going.

I'll take VCU or GMU. not both. especially since the Pat center is where ODU basketball goes to die every year. although I guess it does make sense to keep them on the scedule on a regular basis.

We're also looking for 4 home and homes starting on the road and "several" guarantee games at home. (one home game)

I'm still on the idea of playing some "guarantee" games on the road against nearby ACC schools if we need to extra cash to possibly pay for something we aren't using anymore.

but playing everyone is CUSA means playing FAU, FIU, Rice, UTSA, etc. UAB has also had a difficult time scheduling quality OOC opponents at home. At least with an 18-20 game CUSA schedule teams HAVE to come here
I wish there were East/West Divisions so that ODU, Charlotte, & UAB could play each other twice a year. One of the given reasons for going 14+ teams was to cut down on travel. We certainly aren't going to accomplish that goal.

Those are all good points Blazer. I would not mind divisions either for the basketball league as I think it would be better for producing strong rivalries. I am definitely looking forward to the most of the eastern match-ups, as all have quality programs (FAU, FIU need work).

Concur. Maybe once the dust settles and EZU, Tulane, and whoever else leaves, it will be accomplished. I just hope they put F_U out west so USM can stay in our half. Won't affect their travel as they will have to fly everywhere anyway.

If there are any years left on the Richmond contract, we should be at UR next year.

C-USA next year will be the A-10 this year -- the A-10 schedule gives you everybody in the league once and a designated rival twice. Next year they'll be down to 14 and they'll change their scheduling tendencies. Unless C-USA plans to make 16 teams a going concern, they'll have a more traditional scheme in 2014-15

Hopefully we will see Norview, Great Bridge, Bethel & Phoebus on next years schedule! We could probably count on two wins out of that group.

Yeah, I think ODU is at least two seasons of rehab away from venturing to the Peninsula District. Maybe some Western Tidewater opponents? I think Franklin and Sussex Central might be ripe for the picking.

The team did pretty well against the Div.II schools. Could we move them down and football up?

Franklin, maybe. Sussex Central would give our defense fits.
In all seriousness, I hope the team is playing better by the time the Cancun arrangement comes to fruition. Cupcakes don't fare well in Cancun.

Man, sure am glad we used that trip to Europe during the offseason.....certainly has done us a lot of good.
I wonder if Blaine will blame the schedule again next year if we go 2-16 again?
Well, hopefully we will never find out....
