Tulane lost to UTEP and SMU...they are not good.

That being said, it was great to see us come back, but let Josh sell the fantasy about teams in our conference being good...they are ALL terrible.

Posts like this irritate me no end. WHAT do you expect him to say? And you play the hand you are given. We cannot control how bad or good teams are. The destiny we control is that of the Memphis TIGERS!!

What annoys me is posts where anyone implies that any CUSA team is decent or good, they are not, they are all terrible. That's what I was responding to.

All we can do is win, which we did, but we don't have the luxury of losing to ANY team in our conference or we face the real possibility of needing the tournament...once again...to ensure an NCAA tournament berth.

I ask you again, WHAT do you expect the Coach to say? Tulane is terrible, I expect to beat them by 30? We have had a few bulletin board
moments in this program and they were not pretty. Pastner tries to respect every opponent and does't want the team to take them lightly.

We wore their very, very short roster down in the 2nd half

They played 7 guys we played 8...They had 3 guys play more than 32 minutes we had 3 guys play more than 32 minutes...

So, they were down a man

Well, technically, they played 9 guys, we played 9.

He is counting players over 5 minutes. But their 5 minute guy had 3 points, 2 assists, a steal and a turn, while ours had no offense, a block and a turn.

They had one minute of goose eggs from another guy

We had 3 players in the teens. They had two. Their coach could have played Dabney more if he wanted to and spread out the minutes more.

First, it was pretty clear to me that Josh was sitting Tarik for the first half, and it benefited the tigers in a couple of ways.

1. It demonstrated Josh's authority to the team. Given the whipping we took for most of the first half, it would have been very easy for him to back down and put Tarik in, but he didn't. He took (or maintained) control of his team.

2. It showed Tarik that he IS needed, and that he has the be in the game mentally even when he isn't in it physically. I think tonight will prove to be a big confidence booster for Tarik, and the team as a whole because...

We got down big and we didn't fold. Yes, we knew their shooting would come back down to Earth, but we still had to stay focused and play our game, and we did. I know it was "just" Tulane, but I thought that given the way it went down, today's win was huge for us.

All good points. On #1 I was so mad at JP last night, I could not see straight. Almost went over to the dark side. But after sleeping on it, I see exactly what he did and why he did it. Now, if we would have lost, I am not sure I would feel the same way.

01-ncaabbs THANK YOU!

It's amazing how Pastner just can't win with some people. They complain that the players are too mentally weak and self-entitled, but when Pastner punishes a player for being a poor teammate they cry about Pastner not playing him. I'm just glad our coach isn't as weak-minded as some of the fans on here, who would crumple at the first sign of adversity, give in and lose the respect of the team.

And one thing you didn't mention - Black was able to get in a groove, play longer stretches, and not worry as much about playing too hard and fouling because he started off the second half with no fouls.

Overall, a good win by Pastner and the team. Go Tigers!

I admit I was one of those people last night. I am a HUGE Pastner supporter, but last night I got really really frustrated about Black. Things are clearer this morning, but honestly, if we took a loss due to Black being punished, I am not sure how I'd feel about the situation. Good thing I didn't have to find out. Again, I love JP and hope he stays here for a long long time, but last night I questioned JPs decision.

UTEP beat Oregon Lost to UNLV by 2
Tulane beat Bama which beat Ky and Villanova which beat Louisville
So NC state losing to Wake makes them a bad team

So what would you say to media ? All teams in our league suck....you would be first
coach in history to do so.....

RE: Tonight's win
Like Coach said on the post-game show...Tarik is a very nice young man and what these kids need to learn (like Coach said) is that most of the fans don't really know him and go by what is in the press and form opinions on him by how he handles himself on the floor and on the bench. Tarik is frustrated for whatever reasons and he just needs to learn how to handle that frustration. I know Tarik is smart and has a good support system at home, so I believe he will figure it out and be ok.

What annoys me is armchair coaches and whiners. I don't care what Tulane's record is or who they've won or lost to or even which conference they're in; last night they played exceptionally well against US for 30 minutes and we came away with another W. You do know those count FOR us rather than against us regardless of who we get them from, right?

+1

It worked out, but if it would've backfired the sharks would be out today. Hopefully, the team can move full steam ahead now.

Yes, I am also interested to know this. If the sports talking heads say a team or entire conference is "bad" do you take their word for it? Or do you form your own opinion after watching them play?

Pastner is teaching US ALL a lesson...And if WE don't wake up soon from our fantasies & get on his Bandwagon, After his contract is up, We'll be wondering WHY did he leave us! Allow him to learn how to coach, especially in Memphis and ALL the distractions/challenges with being a young male in this disruptive society. Distributing minutes on one of the deepest, most talented teams in the nation. While he graduates them @ one of the highest rates in the nation. Continue to compete with the top one percent of the coaches for the top recruits in the nation...AND WE ARE WINNING @ a pace of the top percent in the nation. These results and his resume may not be feasible for some here in Lil Ole memphis. but I can assure that Pastner is being watched and We desperatly need the level of recruits that he is bringing in to compete consistantly in the NBE
