Increasing SOS does increase probabilities of injuries.
Lets just play a typical low level mid major instead of FCS first.
If we need more depth because of that then we have issues.

Bottom 5 (not counting transitional schools like UMASS)
Ball State 12,930
Idaho 12,582
San Jose State 10,789
Akron 9,275
Eastern Michigan 3,923
Why can we not schedule a 1 - 1 against San Jose State?
They are a good FB team and in a similar situation to us.
They do pay their new coach very well.

Scheduling SJ St instead of a FCS school please!
Would it not increase our SOS?
Are they not a far better program then Idaho?
N/D does not schedule FCS programs.
Unless we schedule instate rivals like SIU whom bring in a huge fan base, I do not see the point of scheduling an FCS program.
Besides EMU is worse then an FCS program.
Any chance of dropping them from the MAC?
With a 3-13 basketball team, we have no business calling for EMU to be thrown out of the MAC.

I get what you are saying but our basketball program is not going to cost the conference HUNDREDS or THOUSANDS of dollars PER YEAR in lost BCS GO5 profit sharing.

In the 2011-2012 Reese Trophy standings, (All-Sports, Men), NIU was tied for #7. In the 2011-2012 Jacoby Trophy standings, (All-Sports, Women), NIU was #12 (dead last).
How many times has NIU won the Reese Trophy? Answer: never. How many times has NIU won the Jacoby Trophy? Answer: never. As a matter of fact, we've never even been a runner-up for either trophy.
We have no room to ask for any other school in the MAC to be thrown out for poor sports performance.

The MAC presidents have to make a decision. More money for their programs or fairness for a school that does well at non-revenue sports but holds the conference back in making more
Before EMUs poor football performance did not directly hurt our income. As of 2014 it will with the BCS GO5 payout.

RE: college football attendance
It's insane for an NIU fan to call for EMU to get the boot out of the MAC. NIU had the worst losing streak in the country in the 90's and we can't fill our own stadium even when we are winning now. If we weren't kicked out, how the hell do we justify kicking someone else out?
Not only that, EMU went .500 as recently as 2011, had 4 conference wins and only lost to NIU in DeKalb by 6 points.
Unless a school is intentionally bringing down the MAC brand in some way or pulling a Jerry Sandusky type cover up, we aren't in a position to call for anyone to get the boot out of the conference.
We've been real lucky to have a good football the team last decade, let's not let that blind anyone from our overall performance or even our pretty recent history.

But again back then it did not cost the MAC schools HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of dollars.
I am not saying the NIU should start it but come 2014 NIU is financially going to be HURT by any MAC football team with EMUs history...including UMASS. I don't care who we toss but we need to get back to 12 in 2014.
