RE: UAB @ USM Thread
Key in my opinion is that we aren't able to get in the offense. TJ is really a two guard but has sacrificed for the team to play point. Quincy is struggling adjusting to this style and after the injury. We will be better next year, but still need more players to fit this system. Defense has got to get better. Could be attributed to the fact we have no depth. USM like Memphis was subbing all the time. We don't have the players to sub and maintain the level needed.

We do not have a point guard. We got really spoiled with AJ.

Quincy Taylor is struggling because he isn't a very good D1 player. He struggled last year before the injury and he continues to struggle. People that still hold out hope that QT, Purifoy, Williams, or Swing are going to suddenly develop into anything more than marginal D1 players are dreaming. All four are juniors and have substantial playing time on the mid-major level. What you see now is what you will get.
It will take another recruiting class besides the one already in the bag to turn this program around. Lack of size or athleticism is a problem, but the lack of effort and intensity is a bigger issue to me. I'm afraid all the Davis guys will need to be gone before the program starts to turn the corner.

+1....AJ masked a lot of problems this program has had since Mike Anderson. College bball is a guards game and this team has none.

I was one of them. I saw him at practice numerous times and thought he was very good and would help out a great deal. Don't know if the change in style is the difference. His first game against Creighton, I thought that is what we would see all year.

THIS
2+ years before we are back in the dance
Ill be at every single game between now and then and ill watch as many away games I can. Why? Because I know these kids want to win and they love UAB like I do. At the end of the day, it's just a game. Our current squad needs to remember how to have some fun and just play ball.

I appreciate the agreement but I gotta wonder if this group of players really want to win and if they care about UAB. If you care about something you fight for it and I don't see much fight out of this team right now. I see a lot of half effort and sloppy execution.

Everybody wants to win, if it's easy. I don't see a burning desire to win out of this team right now. I see a lot of going through the motions and giving up when the going gets tough.
Just because somebody puts on a uniform and attends a school on scholarship doesn't mean they give a rats @ss about that institution. I graduated with honors from said institution and have never accepted one dime from there. I have written numerous checks for donations and season tickets so, hell yes, I have a right to call out the team for that "game" they played tonight. I'd like to see them earn that excellent education they have been receiving free of charge. The guys on the UAB men's soccer team work just as hard and produce far more for a partial scholarship.

I don't have to be a mind reader. I've watched it with my own eyes. This team played sloppy and lazy tonight, with little heart. That style has gotten to be a habit.

Too many turnovers, I think we had over 20 tonight. Poor execution and just lack of focus tonight with dribbling the ball off our foot and everything else. This team has regressed the past few weeks IMO.

RE: UAB @ USM Thread
Who is the leader of this team? I'm not talking coaches, but players. It really ought to be the PG, but I don't think we are getting much leadership from the PG position.
As far as effort or desire, I see 3 guys who seem to give pretty consistent effort (not necessarily points or showing up in the stats): Hoopy, Rucker, and Williams
PG play needs to improve dramatically, and Purifoy + Swing need to step up and be more consistent if we are going to have any success the rest of this year.

Confusion and lack of confidence can do that to a player (or players). That's a heavy hammer you're swinging there.
